Cables are sneaky
Cables? Cables are gorgeous but sneaky! They will shrink your fabric. There's a video version of this over here, should you wish to watch me flop them around and point to things and listen to me talk. Now, admittedly this is a particularly dramatic example! (The cabled panel and the ribbed panel are the same number of stitches, but the ribbed one is nearly twice as wide.) But all cables will shrink your fabric at least a little. The bigger the cables and the more densely they're packed, the more they'll shrink your fabric. So a four by four cable [...]
Mossy glade
Do I do this job just so I have an excuse to keep track of where all the best mossy glades are? I mean no, not entirely. But I'm not going to say it's not a bonus. I wouldn't lie to you like that. The hat is called Implicit, it's out now, and I'm pretty sure it will look equally fetching even when you're not lolling about in a dewy woodland fairyscape. Though really, you might want to spend some time there, just in case.
Tacit & Implicit
The Tacit & Implicit set is out on both ravelry and payhip, and you can use the code INTIMATED to take 15% off the set for the first few days they're out (as always, mailing list folks and patreon folks should check their email, they've got something waiting for them there). Or, if you already have Tacit and now want the set, make sure you have the updated version of Tacit (it went out yesterday, August 28), and use the code in it to deduct the price of the mitts from the price of the set. Details of that are [...]
The Plan
Here's The Plan (read on if you have or are planning to get these, because we're doing things a little differently): Remember how I've spent the last year and a half restructuring my business so it's more manageable and less overwhelming? (That's why most of the old patterns are retired and only available a couple of days a year.) Well as part of that process, I realized is that listing the individual pieces of sets like this as stand alone patterns creates A Whole Damn Lot Of Extra Admin Work. And one of the goals of restructuring was to minimize [...]
Mix and match
Ok, back to the floof for a second. We did this a little while ago when it was just the mitts and the more eye-searingly pink hat, but it's cool enough I wanted to run it down one more time now that we have a third option in there. All three of these pieces of knitting are made with the same single ply yarn (Seven Sisters Arts' Astrid in the color Zinnia, that's it down front there). And then that single ply yarn is held double with a bit of magnificent floof (HauteKnitYarn Abigail in Saffron Spice for the orange [...]
Pssst
Pssst, today (Friday) is the last day to use the code ZIGZAG for a little discount on Tacit! I'm also working on something nifty for folks who have the mitts and want the matching hat pattern (which should be coming out later this month), so you might wanna grab them now if that's you. Because we all know half the point of being a knitter is having really cute matching winter accessory sets. You just can't find stuff that cute in stores. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Full, or half?
Ok, as of yet scandalously unblocked, but still done enough to see how cute they are! Which one do you like better, the full cable (the darker one on the left) or the half cable (the lighter one on the right)? You can do a folded or a straight brim on either, so don't let that distract you. I'm actually sort of torn myself and don't seem to be able to pick a favorite... This usually means I end up writing up versions of both. In theory I could at least consider showing some restraint and only doing one. You [...]
You’ve got options
Ok, let's talk about yarn for these. Because you've got options! I went with a fingering-weight single ply yarn (astrid from Seven Sisters Arts) held double with a bit of floofy mohair laceweight (abigail from HauteKnitYarn). I did that both because it's a gorgeous combo (and every bit as traffic cone bright in real life, seriously, it glows) and because I wanted to work at a fairly loose gauge. The mohair does a marvelous job of bulking up whatever it's held alongside, which lets you work at a loser gauge (fewer stitches per inch) but still get a solid feeling [...]
Tacit
Tacit is back! It's out in all the usual places (ravelry, payhip), and you can use the code ZIGZAG for a little something off for the first few days it's out. But before you use that, go check your email. If you had an earlier version of this pattern (and it was by far my best selling mitt pattern, so I know a bunch of you do...), you'll have the new one there waiting for you. Rampant Nonsense patrons will find it in their inboxes too. And of course anyone else who lets me send them email when stuff comes [...]
