One morning next month I will wake up, collect a large box of knitting and props, and head off to do the photo shoot for KCC2.  This is both exciting (because holy wow is seeing all the pictures fun) and terrifying (because it's the point in the process where the greatest number of things have to go right at the same time in order for the day to go well).  I deal with this tension in a variety of ways, some rational (lists, lists, and more lists) and some irrational (like asking everyone I know to keep their fingers crossed [...]

Goodies All Around

I now have further proof that yarn people are unbearably awesome.  The marvelous Chris Roosien swung by yesterday and saw you guys talking about her lovely Briar Rose yarn.  She noticed that some of you hadn't (yet) fallen prey to the wonders of her offerings.  So now, in addition to having sent me a skein of Wistful to give away, she's also going to give everyone a discount.  That should help tempt a few of you newbies to give it a try (and perhaps convince a few of you who already know all about it to get yourselves a little [...]

Think Clouds

Ok all, the photo shoot for the mini book is tomorrow.  I actually sewed the buttons on today (rather than waiting till tomorrow morning).  All I have left to do now is lint roller everything one more time and finalize the shot list.  What I'd like all of you to do is wish us up some clouds.  It's supposed to be warm and sunny.  I'd prefer cool and breezy myself.  I can manage the warm if I have to, but it will be easier to get the pics I want if it's not too sunny.  Of course we've got lots [...]

Wrap Up

1) Holy hell that was fun -- watching professionals work is really inspiring.  Also a tiny bit envy-making.  But mostly inspiring.  I feel so good about having hired a real live grown up to come take the pictures for this. 2) Man oh man was that tiring -- try to schedule your colds and your photo shoots for different days. Because I know you carefully schedule your colds.  To do otherwise would be foolish, as I've just demonstrated. 3) I will likely die of impatience waiting for the final version of the images -- no really, they are that good.  [...]

All My Bags Are Packed, I’m Ready To Go

I am (finally) all packed and ready for the photo shoot tomorrow.  That's Box 1.  It contains model releases, shot lists, a wee knitting repair kit in case something goes wrong, and lint roller.  Oh, and knitting.  A fair bit of knitting actually.  You can see tiny snippets of about 15 of the 20 projects there, though peer as you might, you aren't going to be able to tell much about them.  You'll just have to take my word for it that they are nifty.  Box 2 is lurking off camera.  It is even larger (and much much heavier).  It [...]

Tick Tock

Folks, have you looked at a calendar lately?  I'm less than two weeks away from the book's photoshoot.  Do you have any idea how cool that is?  Do you have any idea how nerve wracking that is?  The balance between cool and nerve wracking shifts from moment to moment.  To cope, I'm going into super organized mode (yes, scarily enough, it is actually possible to be more organized than I usually am). As part of this organizational frenzy, I'm reblocking most everything for the book.  Some of it had been folded up in the box, and those folds sort of [...]

And Then They Fell Down Raining Fiery Death on All

Some things in this world are simply true.  It doesn't matter if I remember them or not.  It doesn't matter if I like them or not.  They just go right on being true in blatant disregard of how I think the world should work. For instance, I am a big person, and I have giant freaky man hands.  Also, it is rather challenging to take pictures of hands. Given these two truths, it really shouldn't surprise me that taking a picture of giant freaky man hands that 1) makes them look willowy and delicate 2) shows off the knitting they [...]

The Stars Aligned

Several things have happened at once. I'm home during daylight (not that rare). The Boy is home during daylight (much more rare). The weather is pleasant (quite unusual). I have finished knitwear to photograph (nearly unheard of). The combination means that there is a very good chance that all three of the little fluffy mitts shown a week or so ago will be ready to show off in their final project photos in the next day or two.  Which is excellent, because that means I'll be able to start wearing them.  Holding off on wearing perfectly good knitwear is rather [...]

Your Turn

I'm meeting with the photographer for Book the Second on Thursday.  We'll be having a planning meeting, wandering the halls of our photo shoot location, and generally plotting how to make this book extra awesome. I have my list of 'things to ask' and 'things to insist upon.'  But I'm sure there's something I'm overlooking.  After all, this organize and execute a book thing is still new to me. So here's where you come in.  I've got two questions for you. First, what do you always wish you could tell the photographers of your knitting books?  Is there something you [...]
