Bespeckle (plus giveaway)

Bespeckle is up on ravelry, there's yarn to give away on instagram, and the pattern is 10% off for the first few days it's out with the code SPECK. This was just supposed to be about the pompoms. I had this burning need to put all the stuff I find myself saying about pompoms (how to get them really full and round, how to make them detachable, how to add stripes or polkadots, what tools I like) down in one place.  So I figured fine, I'll embrace the delightful ridiculousness that is my life and do just that. But then [...]

Downright stoic

I'm going to display unusual stoicism.  I'm going to zip through this brim with shocking speed and good cheer. Some of it is that the yarn is nice and thick (SpaceCadet, Capella, it's yummy). Some of it is that I'm not doing a folded brim. And some of it is that I have a whack of bright pink yarn all prepped and ready and taunting me in the distance, and I don't get to use it until the brim is done. And between them, those three combine to get me through this in record time!

So...before I can jump in on the next hat, I need to do a tiny bit of prep. We're just all going to go along with the idea that this is a totally normal and reasonable step, and absolutely the sort of thing a sane person does.  Ok?  Ok. And I just won't mention how it was actually kind of fun to do once I got in the rhythm of it.

Tantamount (plus giveaway)

I hear from you guys over and over that what you're really looking for in a sock is something that's mellow enough to be relaxing knitting, but with enough going on to look pretty and hold your attention.  Well if that's what you're into, I think Tantamount could be just the thing! Most of these socks are lovely, mellow, meditative stockinette.  But zipping down the inside and outside of each sock is a nifty little cable that provides just enough of a challenge to keep you focused.  And do me a favor and flip your sock inside out once you've [...]

August 1, 2017|

So you know those socks?  The gray swoopy ones from back here?  Well, they went and changed colors on us... And somehow morphed into two variations on the theme... Because really, who doesn't like options! And they'll be out at the beginning of August.  If you're on the mailing list, you'll get a coupon when they come out (someone always asks, so I'll be all clever and answer ahead of time, folks on the mailing list get a different and bigger coupon than the one I list on the blog/instagram/twitter).  You can make that happen over here if you want [...]

Greenhorn (plus giveaway)

So if you've been here any length of time at all, you know I'm a firm believer in top down socks with a heel flap.  But...every once and a while, the urge to do something a little (but let's be real...only a little) bit different strikes me.  Greenhorn was one of those times! These are actually a very mellow way to depart from traditional top down heel flap socks.  The leg is the same, the foot is the same, just the heel and gusset are handled a bit differently.  Instead of working flat over half the stitches to make a [...]

Permutation (plus giveaway)

I have a hard time knowing when to stop.  This was supposed to be a simple little hat.  Instead it turned into something of an adventure.  Allow me to introduce Permutation. It all started with that gray and pink hat.  It was a simple little thing.  That spiky stitch is lots of fun to do and a fabulous way to practice playing with two colors.  It would have been a lovely stand alone pattern. I mean just look how cute the top is! But I have a hard time leaving well enough alone, and before I was done with the [...]

That was quick

This was supposed to make the snow stop.  The traditional approach is 'it's snowing, I'm cold, oh I know, I'll knit something, oh look spring came long before I finished the knitting.'  It's usually foolproof. But not so much this time.  I started it Saturday, finished it Monday, blocked it this week (still loving the lampshade approach to blocking cowls), and still the snow hasn't melted. So maybe the final step is to show it off here.  Perhaps that will take care of it.  I do note that the forecast today puts the temps well above freezing!
