So remember how I said there were goodies in the first 500 packages of Silk Road Socks that went out? Well I think it’s time we show off what they were! But to do that, we need a little backstory.
If you’ve gotten your book, you’ve probably noticed all the beautiful illustrations scattered throughout.
I mean look at that…isn’t that cool?
And that…how can you not love that?
These (and the map, and the inside covers, and pretty much anything else you look at and go ooooooohhhh!) are by the delightful Stephanie Fliss. Early in the production of Silk Road Socks I realized I wanted illustrations, and said something on twitter about it, and she got in touch. And this is totally a better book because she did!
She created motifs from each of the various styles of rugs, and each pattern opens with the corresponding illustration (and uses bits of the illustration around the page numbers because that stuff makes me happy and I get to be a dork on my own books…). I love them beyond all reason. You can see the full version of each pattern’s illustration on the pattern’s ravelry page!
So it seemed only natural that when it came time to come up with something fun to send along in the early bird packages, we’d use Stephanie’s awesome pictures. She made line art versions of some of the illustrations and I got them printed up as little packs of postcards that you can color in yourself.,
These are more fun than they have any right to be, and from what I’m hearing, you guys love them too (and some folks have asked, so just for the record, you can totally send them in the mail). If you’ve gotten yours and colored them, I’d love to see it! And if your life just won’t be complete without a set of your own, leave a comment here telling me how you feel about coloring and I’ll pick a three winners to send a set to. I’ll be doing the same over on instagram, so you can leave a comment on the picture of the postcards there to double your chances of winning!
Oh, and someone will ask, so the pencils are these (which I’ve had since college and they’re still going strong, and as always, amazon links are affiliate links).
Comments left between now and the end of the day (eastern time), Sunday September 17, 2017 will be entered to win. I’ll pick winners, contact them to get their addresses, and arrange to send postcards their way. Be sure to use a real email address so I can contact you if you’ve won (I won’t do anything with those email addresses besides notify the winner). If I do email you, I need to hear back from you within 72 hours or I will pick a new winner and contact them. These are little enough they can ship anywhere, so it’s fine if you’re not in the states.
