Cracked
Published On: March 31, 2020

So, I’m going to be very direct. Putting out a pattern for a knitting pattern (and a frivolous pattern at that) right now feels weird.  But I talked with some people myself, and I’ve seen other conversations happening online, and the consensus seems to be that folks understand.  Folks understand that this is how some of us pay our bills (and want us to keep doing that).  Folks understand that some people could really use a distraction right now (and a new pattern can be a great distraction).  And folks understand wanting to do things that feel normal (and for a lot of us, making or using nifty patterns feels delightfully normal at the moment).

So for now, I’m going to keep putting out patterns.  But if you don’t feel like they’re the right thing for you now, I completely understand.  I won’t be at all upset if you take a break (as long as your coping mechanisms involve staying home when you can and being extra nice to people you have to interact with, I’m ok with them).  And if this mess has meant you or a partner or a housemate lost a job or are otherwise in a bad situation, the last thing I want you doing is buying a pattern from me.  I’m ok, and I want you to take care of yourself first.  I’ll be here when things settle down!

But, with all that said, if you’re looking for an absolutely absurd distraction, I’ve got you covered.  This is Cracked, it’s on ravelry now, and you can take 10% off with the code HATCHLING.

Now look, not one single solitary one of you actually need this in any sort of real way.  It will not keep you warm.  It will not make sure you don’t get arrested for public indecency.  It’s not even remotely practical as a toy for your cat or your kiddo.  All it will do is look lovely.  And if that’s enough for you right now?  Then that’s grand.  I suspect we could all use a bit of loveliness as distraction.

Fill a basket.  Make a garland.  Make a wreath.  Bring a branch inside and hang them all over.  If you’re the sort of person susceptible to this sort of nonsense, you already know what to do with these!  And if you’re not, that’s totally ok.  There will be more practical patterns soon.  For now, it’s all lace and blossoms and pretty distractions.  And that’s just what I need right now.

The pattern is Cracked, it’s the perfect thing to do with all those extra eggs you somehow seem to have on hand right now (I’m not the only one right? Someone else out there has a fridge full of eggs too?), and you can take 10% off for the first few days it’s out with the code HATCHLING.

P.S. There’s a quick article on the Library of Congress’ blog over here about the history of decorating eggs.  People have been making eggs feel fancy for literally tens of thousands of years (which is unspeakably nifty).  It’s not at all limited to any one culture or region or faith tradition.  So if you want to do this, but you’re worried on stepping on anyone’s toes, I think you’re probably ok.  Making things beautiful and marking the start of spring seems to be a pretty universal human impulse!
