Monthly Reminder
Published On: November 30, 2024

Monthly reminder that abortions are good (in the way that all healthcare is good…doesn’t mean they’re fun, doesn’t mean anyone wants to need them, but by god it’s good to have them available when they’re needed), that I and any space I have any control over is absolutely 100% pro abortion, and that anyone who has a problem with that is kindly invited to see themselves out. Quietly.

The bad guys won this last round of elections, and that’s going to make abortions harder to get. But that doesn’t mean you give up, and that doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do. So let’s get started.

  • Get abortion pills now to have on hand. You can get them now, even if you’re not pregnant. They last 2-5 years, @aidaccess will send them to you no matter what your state’s laws say, and they’ll help you even if you can’t afford them.
  • Stock up on the morning after pill. Plan B is available over the counter and recommended for folks up to 155 lbs, Ella requires a prescription and is recommended for folks up to 195 lbs. Both often work for larger people (so ABSOLUTELY still take them if you need them, even if you weigh more than that) but are less effective at higher weights.
  • Talk to your doctor about sterilization or long term birth control. Talk about replacing your IUD early if it expires soon.
  • Step up your digital privacy. Delete your period tracking app, move to an encrypted messaging app, get a better browser, stop allowing location tracking, leave your phone home if you go to get an abortion. @plancpills has good info on this here.
  • Find out what your state’s laws are (and the laws of states you’re thinking of moving to, studying in, or traveling to). This is absolutely a valid reason to think about moving if that’s an option for you. Guttmacher has good info here and here as does the Center for Reproductive Rights here.
  • Put information about abortion and reproductive issues in your information feed. No really, go follow @jessicavalenti and @plancpills and @heyjanehealth and @aidaccess and @reprolegaldefensefund and @drjenniferlincoln and @ma_hotline and any other folks you can find. Because staying informed and staying active will help keep you as safe as possible, and we need you to stay safe to stay in this fight.
