Another sweater update
The last one we talked about isn’t the only sweater I cut up at the beginning of the season. I actually did three.
And, just as with the last one, this one held up to an entire winter of heavy wear and frequent washing (in the machine, on gentle, with cold water, hang to dry) absolutely beautifully. No fraying, no unraveling, no runs, no problems at all. Quite a few purple hair dye splotches, but that’s a different issue.
And, spoiler warning I suppose for anyone following along on the sweater saga, the third one also held up beautifully.
I have to call this a complete success. In each case, it took a sweater out of the back of the closet that I never wore, took scissors to it, and turned it into something that I wore, repeatedly, all winter long. Yes, fine, I wore them at home. But I work from home and am about as introverted as they come. I do my best to not leave the house more than a couple times a week. So clothes for home are actually 90% of what I wear. And each and every one of the sweaters I cut up saw more wear this winter than any of my out of the house clothes do in a year.
So if you’re considering taking scissors to your sweater because it’s just a little to long and it hits you in just the wrong spot, or if it has one of those stupid tight bands at the bottom that lands right at your widest bit and you hate your life every time you put it on, do it. Chop it. Get your scissors and go to town. If you’re not wearing the sweater anyway, what do you have to lose?
I fully intend to do this to several more sweaters in the future (because getting more wear out of what you have rather than buying something new is always always always a win). And I’ll probably even show you when I do.
