Want bacon with that?
I, an ostensible adult who purports to behave in a reasonable fashion much of the time, have spent the last two weeks knitting…bacon. Brioche bacon specifically.
And I won’t even pretend that some of you aren’t sitting there, right now, going ‘yeeeeeeeeeeeees’ and clicking your needles in anticipation. So I won’t be coy and ask if you want a pattern, because I mean that would just be silly. There’s definitely going to be a pattern.
But I do have two questions!
First, are there enough of you out there who want to learn brioche, but maybe you’re a little scared of it, that I should make some instructional content? That would likely a series of videos where I kind of explain what I’m doing and why and talk to you about the details of what’s going on and how I think about things, sort of like we’re doing on the embroidery and notebook paper projects.
It’s a non-trivial amount of work to do that, and I don’t quite have a good sense yet from the previous projects of whether it’s helpful enough to be worth the time. So the way I decide if that’s the best place to put my time and energy is by trying to get a sense of how many folks are out there that want to make bacon, but are a little too daunted to try it with their current skill set, but would be confident enough to try it if they knew there was a little supplementary material available. And the only way I can think to learn that is to just ask!
So tell me, are you comfy enough with brioche that you don’t need extra help? Are you new to or only slightly familiar with brioche but confident that you can figure it out on your own? Are you new to brioche and want to learn more, but don’t want to go figure it out on your own? No right or wrong answers, just trying to get a vague sense of the vibe.
Second, do you want me to figure out yarn and do kits? Because I’ll be honest, finding bacon-colored yarn has so far been the hardest part of this project (and yes, some of the current colors are not quite right, but I’m inching closer ever closer the perfect ones). But I have astonishingly gracious and patient yarn friends who put up with me when I say “um, could you make me bacon yarn?” And I suspect they’d probably be willing to make bacon yarn for quite a few of us if we asked nicely.
And yes, there would be some other cool things in there too! I’m determined to figure out the best way to turn these into a bracelet, because clearly that needs to happen, and it will likely involve supplies. And I’m going to do something clever with wire on the sides to make them bendy/posable. And I might possibly be working on some fancy scissors…though that’s a secret right now. And I mean there is also that other little pouch. So yeah, it would be yarn and other cool bits, because of course.
So tell me, are are you quite confident you can track down suitable yarn? Or is this a, um, specific enough color range that it would be fun to have help and maybe a bacon-y little kit would be fun? Again, no right or wrong answers, just a vibe check!
TL;DR:
A bacon pattern is (assuming no catastrophes or, other, more pressing, distractions), all but inevitable, because I am helpless to resist my nature and you all encourage my shenanigans.
The only questions are do we want a little pile of supplementary instruction so you can accidentally learn brioche while you make bacon? And do we want kits to help you avoid having to say ‘I need some bacon-colored yarn’ right out loud at your local yarn shop?
Talk amongst yourselves. Help me figure out how smitten everyone is and just how much time I should spend, well…knitting and facilitating the knitting of cartoon meat strips.
