Get Stuffed
Hearts (they’re called Palpitation) are done, so it’s time to stuff them. Stuffing (or roving), rice, and plastic pellets are the three materials I’ve used most often to fill projects like this. And my absolute favorite is the plastic pellets.* They’re heavier than polyester or wool stuffing, and they don’t run the risk of going moldy or attracting bugs like rice might.

Now, someone, somewhere, is currently warming up their fingers to explain, at length, why plastic is evil and they don’t want to use it. To which I say cool, then please don’t use it! I absolutely promise not to come make you do any such thing. (Though if you squawk at me about how evil it is to use plastic pellets and then turn around and use polyester stuffing, I may quietly raise one eyebrow and entertain a brief, judgemental thought.)
I, however, have found that the plastic pellets do the job better than other alternatives. And this is an object I fully intend to keep indefinitely, not something I’m going to throw away tomorrow. And sometimes plastic is the best material for the job. So that’s what I use. Next time we’ll talk about how I actually shove them in there.

*Someone wants to know, so that’s an amazon affiliate link to the ones I use. Amazon is the devil, and if you can find these somewhere else (and you can probably find them at any big craft store), you should get them there instead. But if amazon is what’s available to you, then I don’t mind if they send me a little bit of the money they make from that sale. But really, they suck, look somewhere near you if that’s an option for you.
