And they’re off
June’s Notable Nonsense went in the mail yesterday and should start arriving in mailboxes early next week.

Is that two days later than I’d have liked? Yup! Did the package with the cards ship a full week after it was supposed to? Mmmm hmm. Did Fedex then have an unexpected delay and take an extra day to deliver the package (the package that I paid extra to have delivered via overnight express) until July 1? You guessed it, also yes.
Was I able to stuff hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of envelopes in the two hours between when the box with the cards arrived and when the post office closed for the day? Nope, despite my best efforts, I remain unable to bend time to my will. Did I get up bright and early yesterday morning, enlist the help of not one but two friends currently staying with me to avoid the ongoing unspeakable heatwave and plow through them all first thing so as to get them to the post office before the long weekend? Yup!
And now they are handed safely over to the tender mercies of our valiant postal service. I’m pretty darn sure absolutely no one cares or was worried! But if anyone is actually bothered they went out on July 2 instead of June 30, shoot me a message and we’ll sort it out next week. In the meantime, I am going to go lie down…in the shade…with a fan…and an iced beverage…possibly under a damp sheet.
And if you maybe want something to reflect on while you try to stay cool this weekend, here’s a great interview with Jason Stanley, a former Yale professor who studies fascism and authoritarianism and who wrote the book How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them (and who fled the US last year because of his concern that we are becoming a fascist dictatorship), talking about the ever increasing campaign of ethnic cleansing the US is engaged in.
Thinking about that feels like a much better way to mark the 250th anniversary of this nation than watching fireworks or eating a hotdog. We should be better than this. And we can be, if enough of us make a stink.
Stay safe…
