Alrighty, so bacon is coming! But our little egg friend is likely coming first for a variety of boring logistical reasons. And while yes, it is delightfully simple (almost all stockinette in the round, which I firmly hold is the absolute simplest knitting), like all simple things, the details end up mattering a lot.

So I figure we should talk about them! Because usually when you get into the details of something, even something simple (cough, especially something simple, cough), it turns out there’s something cool there to know.

In this case, we’ve got the cast on (I used a pinhole cast on, aka cat butt cast on…no you will never unhear that, sorry), increases (lifted increases are the sneakiest and most subtle ones I’ve found), nipple avoidance techniques (insert your own nipple joke here), short rows (because real eggs are never perfectly round), and managing ends on something where there’s no wrong side to hide things in (a skill I have perfected to the point that I curse a lot if I ever have to open something back up later on).

If you’re newer to knitting, some of those might be new skills (and this is a great project to practice them). And even if you’re not, I bet there will be something fun to talk about (because my god my favorite thing about knitting is how you never run out of details to have opinions about).

We’ll do this more or less how we’ve done some of the other video series lately. I’ll make a bunch of posts about it over the next little while, they’ll be generally available while I’m working on the pattern, then eventually they’ll get all bundled together into a little collection with more restricted access! We’ll start with the cast on next time (just as soon as I find my crochet hook…).
