The slipper phase continues! This time Abeyance is joining the current Rotating Collection.

This pattern originally came out in 2019, and it was absolutely fascinating to go back and completely revamp and update it (don’t fret, if you had the original, there’s already a copy of the new one in your library/inbox).

One of the things I’ve really worked on over the last five years or so is making my patterns thorough enough that a confident beginner who doesn’t mind learning new things can make them. That usually means lots and lots of step-by-step photos (like this pattern has seven pages of them) and lots of extra hand holding on the spots that might feel tricky (things like reminders beside the charts, and extra notes calling your attention to things that might feel funny in the moment so you know you’re not doing anything wrong, and telling you why I want you to do something strange like leave an extra long tail when you break your yarn).

And from what I can tell, this approach has been working great! I get so many fewer questions than I used to (most of the questions I used to get were some variation on ‘I haven’t actually tried this yet and therefore haven’t actually encountered any actual problems, but I can’t understand from just reading it why/how you do this thing,’ to which it is hard to respond with anything more than ‘ok…so put it on your needles/in your hands, do what it says, and let me know if anything actually goes wrong’). And now instead I hear from so many folks saying they tried something they worried was a little bit beyond their skill level, but that it worked out just fine, and now they’re better equipped to tackle the next project. And that feels like a pretty big win!
