Pesky Reality
I think most knitters reach a point where they start to think ‘hmmm, wouldn’t it be nice to have a small flock/herd/pack of sheep/goats/alpacas?’ Of course if you’re me, you then remember that a) you live on a tiny city lot in a town with an unreasonable penchant toward regulations, b) you haven’t the slightest idea how to care for any animal more demanding than a cat (and a laid back cat at that), and c) you don’t actually want to deal with the quantity of poop that such creatures doubtless produce. In other words, reality and all of its inconvenient limitations comes stamping in and tramples all over the lovely pastoral fantasy you’ve constructed.
However, through the magic of the internet, I can totally live out my fantasies through others. The lovely folks at Juniper Moon Farm (the geniuses behind the yarn CSA) actually do have flocks of sheep and goats to give away. Now, in their infinite wisdom, they are carefully screening the applicants to make sure that the little critters will find safe and happy homes. That means most emphatically not with me. But, and this is the really awesome part, just maybe that happy home will be with a friend of mine. Mariah Oliver is one of the finalists in the contest. This is deeply cool. If she wins, I get to vicariously fulfill all my sheepy fantasies without actually doing any work or dealing with the…ahem…earthier aspects of sheep and goats.
So, if you’ve ever entertained the notion of playing little bo peep, go take a look at all the entrants and see if any of them take your fancy!
And on an ever so much more practical note, Madam Publisher assures me that each and every ordered book has now been entrusted to the loving care of the local post office. They should be in your hands any day now.
