If you’ve been following along for the last few weeks, you might remember I started a shrub a little while ago. I reported on step one (in which we chop and sugar), and step two (in which much vinegar is used). Step three was waiting. Days and days and days of waiting. Patient waiting while our friendly microbes do their magic. You can guess how much fun that is. I didn’t feel that required much of an update.
But now, now we’re on step four. Step four is putting the delicious syrup into some sort of long term storage vessel and preparing the restorative beverage of your choice.
It’s pink (the plum one is at least, the pear one is a bit more golden) and translucent and has just the tiniest bit of carbonation. It’s also delicious. A tablespoon or two in some seltzer water makes a ridiculously good version of grown up soda, and a tablespoon or two in your favorite cocktail does wonders. The nice folks over here have some proper recipes, but I’ve had great fun just experimenting.
And I intend to do quite a bit of that experimenting today. For you see, this Friday and Saturday were taken up with KCC3’s photoshoot. And while I love all of the wonderful folks who help me put this project together, and am hugely grateful for all their hard work, it is still a rather frantic few days. A restorative beverage or two seems in order as a bit of a celebration for making it through!
