Ecliptic (plus giveaway)
Published On: April 3, 2018

I’m having way way way too much fun with hats.  That lovely blue one you’ve been asking for is out, it’s called Ecliptic, and you can grab now.

Every now and then I get to feeling a tiny bit guilty about all the hats I knit.  Because really…they’re easy, they’re quick, and they don’t even take that much yarn.  Shouldn’t I be doing something epic like a blanket or complicated like a jacket?  Isn’t that what it takes to be a proper knitter?  But then I think no.  I actually sort of like that they’re easy and quick (because really…I don’t need more hard or slow in my life).  And I love that they only take a skein or two of yarn, because that means I can buy all those single skeins I see and love and know I’ll find a project for them later.

There’s really nothing wrong with satisfying projects you can finish in a few days, especially when they’re as pretty as this.  Because this really is rather lovely.  Especially the crown (I’m relieved to know I’m not alone in my love of a pretty crown…there seem to be a lot of us out there and it’s good to know I’m in such fine company)!

I knit mine with Silk Blend from Manos del Uruguay.  I know folks are sometimes a tiny bit nervous about single-ply yarns, but I sort of love them.  They’re nice and round, so they show off your stitches really well (no shadows between the plies to distract you from the stitches).  And I promise they’re not as delicate as they look.  And something like a hat (that doesn’t get a lot of wear and tear) is the perfect place to play with them.

The good folks at Manos are going to send somebody two skeins of Silk Blend in the winner’s favorite color.  All you have to do is follow the instructions on this instagram post for a chance to win.

And I can’t quite send yarn to everyone, but I have set up a discount code everyone can use for the next few days.  Use the code CELESTIAL to get 10% off between now and Friday.  Just put Ecliptic in your ravelry cart, click on the ‘use a coupon code’ button, and type in the code CELESTIAL.  You’ll see the change in price reflected right away.

And if you find yourself as taken with this hat as I am, check out Constellate and Sidereal.  They use the same stitch technique, and if you like one, there’s an awfully good chance you’ll like the others!
