Home stretch

Ok, so we're going to run out of days before we run out of hats... I mean don't worry, the hats are all done and ready to go.  But I try not to post on here every day (because really...you'll get quite sick of me), so we're going speed this one up a bit. Let's pretend it went from that up there to this right here in the blink of an eye!  I'm going to assume you can more or less imagine that there was a middle stage there in between where it was shorter and just leave that as [...]

More Reading Assignments

Remember when we talked about how the world at large is pretty damn racist and that carries right on over to the knitting community...no matter how much you wish it didn't?  Yeah, well it's an ongoing conversation and I've got some more stuff I think you should read (and for the record, it's good that the conversation is continuing...this isn't a 'think about it once and then congratulate yourself for having thought about it and be done with it' sort of issue). There is a great article over on Vox that talks about what's been going on (if you're on [...]

Two down…

Two down, one to go! As predicted, the top is indeed smashing. Now if you'd just kindly come over and knock out the third one for me...   [pextestim pex_attr_set="looking-for-this-pattern" pex_attr_autoplay="false"][/pextestim]

Why aren’t all the hats worsted…

Yeah, so the only reason it's feeling even slightly feasible to bang three of these out is because they're worsted.  It's sort of making me think that if I ever do break down and do a sweater (not likely) that it will absolutely have to be worsted weight (nope...still too slow...but I can see the appeal). This one will, I suspect, also be awfully shiny on the crown. Just need to sneak in a few more rounds to make sure!   [pextestim pex_attr_set="looking-for-this-pattern" pex_attr_autoplay="false"][/pextestim]

Next up

So I mean naturally the next thing to do is cast on the second hat.  You've got to maintain your momentum, right? The first one took less than half of each skein, so it should be easy enough to get a second one done with the same yarn. That's always a little risky to say (because if you decide you want to knit yours four inches taller to do a huge folded brim & your head is way bigger & you want it to be slouchy...maybe not).  But I'm pretty confident it will work for like 99% of folks (one of the [...]

Causation

Hat feeling lonely? Does it need some mitts to keep it company?  We can do that!  Causation is out today and it will look absolutely smashing with Correlation from earlier in the month! For the first few days they're out, the mitts 10% off with the code INSIDEOUT. Now of course, having the mitts won't totally solve the 'which side is prettiest' problem the hat introduced.  But it does at least give you the option of showing off both sides at the same time (one on the hat, one on the mitts). And I've heard from one or two of you [...]

Tip top

So this is done... And it's unquestionably adorable.  Like that's totally a good looking hat, no doubt about it. But wait till you see the top.  I mean that's just pretty much magic! I'm not even going to pretend to say anything modest or self effacing.  That's grand, I love it, and it makes me gloriously happy!   [pextestim pex_attr_set="looking-for-this-pattern" pex_attr_autoplay="false"][/pextestim]

So many mitts

So, I try really hard to keep the blog (and instagram...and twitter...and ravelry...and even, in theory, pinterest) up to date, but sometimes that just doesn't happen.  It seems to go in phases, and just lately I've been chattier over on instagram (I think it' something about the 8 zillion little heart notifications and the never ending scrolling wall of pretty...that's totally not an accident, it's pretty much designed to reel you in and steal your attention for hours on end).  And that means I've been scandalously remiss and haven't show off the mitts in a while. They zipped along in [...]

All grown up

So, those itty bitty hats we did back before the holidays?  Yeah, they needed people versions. Now...I am totally not diligent enough to make all 12 of them into people versions.  Because that is...well...that is an unreasonable amount of knitting/photography to pull off for one pattern.  A dozen hats is a book, not an individual pattern.  I'm just not that cool. But...I can manage a few...likely three. So I've picked some of my favorites and am zipping along. Yarns are Alegria Grande (in Natural) and Maxima (in Daffodil), both by Manos del Uruguay (looks like one skein of each yarn [...]
