Do you remember back in early February when I started these? Early February, which was (I checked) a mere 8 weeks ago? Not the 8 months it feels like? Yeah. I know. Me neither. But I’m pretty sure it happened. And since the tiny sprocket for whom the hats were intended has made his debut, it seems only fair to bring out the pattern (even if things are super weird right now).
The pattern is Exigencies, it’s up on ravelry, and you can take ten percent off with the code DISTRACT ME for the next few days.
Now, let’s get the important bit out of the way first. These particular hats were made for a tiny person. But the pattern comes in a huge array of sizes so you can totally make it for an adult too.
Now, whether you’ll want to make it for an adult in precisely these colors? That’s up to you. I confess I’d totally wear them, but my taste is suspect. I’m likely not to be trusted. But I have it on good authority that you folks have amazing taste in colors and I trust you to come up with no end of marvelous things.
You can use as many or as few accent colors as you like. Go with just one to be all understated and tasteful. Break out your most delightful rainbow. Go with your team or house colors. It’s the perfect way to use up leftovers from other projects (you just want to make sure all your yarns are about the same weight) or show off that collection of mini skeins you’ve been saving. And you only need a couple of yards for each stripe.
Even better, these are both way easier than they look. The vast majority of the hat is just plain stockinette in the round (aka, soothing, which sounds really good right now). The fancy bits are fake colorwork (the sort where you only ever use one color per row and all the nifty bits happen through clever slipped stitches). The only time you have to do proper colorwork (the sort where you use more than one color on the same row and therefore swear a lot) is if you want that star at the top. And even then, it’s only for four rows…you can manage anything for for measly rows, right?
If this looks like just what you need to make something cool from your stash (because you’re not going out to the yarn shop right now, right? If you need yarn, you’re calling or ordering it online), the pattern is Exigencies and it’s 10% off with the code DISTRACT ME through the end of the day, eastern time, Friday April tenth.
