Penchant Expansion Pack
Published On: March 26, 2024

The Expansion Pack for Penchant is out, and this is a little different from what we usually do, so read on for details!

We all know I’m bad at restraint. I like versions and options and exploring things in depth. It’s how I’m wired. So it makes sense that something that started with one hat quickly turned into two. And then those two hats somehow seemed like the absolutely perfect place to spend some time playing with duplicate stitch. So I did! The hat pattern came out last year, but the primer on duplicate stitch was only for patrons. But now it’s time to make it available to everyone!

The Expansion Pack includes both hat patterns, a lengthy exploration of duplicate stitch that will let you use it to decorate and mend both handmade and storebought knits, and instructions for six different ways to embroider on these hats specifically.

You’ve got a couple of options for how you can get the Expansion Pack (mostly because I want to make sure anyone who already has the stand alone hat pattern is taken care of), so please read the next bit carefully!

  • If you don’t already have the hat pattern, you can just buy the Penchant Expansion Pack (it includes both the hat pattern and the embroidery bits). You can find it on ravelry (you want the ebook listing on that page) or payhip. You can use the code DOUBLEDOWN to take 15% off through the end of the day Friday.
  • If you do already have the hat pattern and now want the embroidery bits, I’ve got things set up so you don’t end up buying the hat twice. On ravelry, make sure you’re logged in to whatever account you used when you bought the hat pattern and put the ebook in your cart (you want the ebook listing on that page). The cart will automatically adjust, you don’t need a code. On payhip, look for the update to the hat pattern that went out yesterday and follow the instructions there.
  • You can also join the Patreon for a month at either the Utter Nonsense or Rampant Nonsense level. The Utter Nonsense level costs $6.00 (which is way less than what the Expansion Pack costs, even with the mailing list discount), and at either level you’ll get a whole bunch of other patterns too (you can see the current list here). You can totally change or cancel your membership whenever you want (right through the website, you do not have to do anything annoying like talk to a person), and you’ll still have any patterns you got while you were subscribed (if you’re on ravelry, they go in your ravelry library just like any other pattern you buy there).

Whew, I know that’s a few more options than usual, but it’s the best way I can find to make sure anyone who already has the hat and now wants the embroidery bits doesn’t end up needing to buy the hat a second time, and that felt important to do. Plus, we’re knitters, we’re clever, we can make this work!

Because really…don’t you want to do this to your knits?! I know I do…
