All in one place

Ok, folks are smitten, let’s run down the details. First, the pattern is Drifts and it’s in the usual spots (ravelry, payhip). And yes, it walks you through four different versions of the embroidery so you can make lots of different styles!

The knitting on these is super chill. I did (most of) mine in various whites, and it’s pretty much all just stockinette in the round. I used everything from sock weight (on the smallest ones) up through worsted weight (on the biggest ones), because knitting is stretchy and inanimate objects do not complain about how things fit. The embroidery is worked in lots of different bases and shades of Seven Sisters Arts’ lovely blues (she might even have some mini bundles left should you be so inclined).

The knitting takes somewhere around 50-75 yards of yarn, the embroidery about 10. And mine take me somewhere between 1-2 hours to knit and 1-2 hours to embroider.

Inside you’ve got either plain glass or plastic ornaments or styrofoam balls. The ornaments are about 3 inches in diameter, the styrofoam balls are either 3 or 4 inches. I’m torn between loving the styrofoam balls because they are perfectly round and you can close the top end up just so and liking the ornament ones because they have the little hanging hook so you can put them on your tree.

Luckily, there exists a happy medium. You can make the styrofoam balls (and get the perfectly tidy end) and get the ornament caps separately and add them as needed should you wish to hang them (did I know such a thing existed to buy before I made these, no, but apparently it does, and now you know too). Because honestly, I don’t really do trees, but these look awfully fetching just in a big pile…where the ball ones work better than the ornament ones…but the caps give you the option if you want to try both.

And yes you /could/ fill them with something soft if you felt like it. But I, personally, want mine to be as close to a perfect sphere as I can manage. And soft filling just isn’t ever going to be quiiiiiite as round as something firm. But if that’s not important to you, or if having them be soft is more important, that’s totally an option!

One more time, it’s Drifts, it’s where you’d expect (ravelry, payhip), and you can have a pile of them in just a few hours!

*as always, amazon links are affiliate links. Because although amazon is the devil, they are also the most practical place for a lot of the folks reading this to find things. And if the billionaire hellspawn site is going to get a sale, I’m ok with them sending me a tiny piece of it. If you’re not cool with that, you can totally totally either search for things on your own, or better yet see if you can find them somewhere locally! If you have a store that sells this stuff, shop at it! I just know I live a 90 minute drive, one way, from anywhere that would have a lot of this, so that means I order a lot of things online. And I know I’m not the only one, so gross as amazon is, I’m going to give you options and trust you’ll pick what works best for you in the moment.
