The button fairy has blessed me. The button fairy has blessed me, and I want to share her bounty with y’all! Anyone wanna let me send them some buttons?

So, on Monday, as I was going to do a boring but necessary administrative task, I came across a pile of free stuff on someone’s lawn. And in that pile were two big boxes of buttons. The speed with which I grabbed them and shoved them in my car, cackling with glee the whole time, is borderline shameful. I didn’t have time to go through them in any detail on the spot, but oh, oh, oh I spent much of yesterday playing with them!

And whoever had this stash sewed. Like really for real. Because there are lots and lots and lots of sets of a dozen or more matching buttons (which everyone who sews knows is always the most useful for a project). So I went through and pulled out the ones that called to me and that I knew I wanted to keep.

But then here’s the thing…there were still lots and lots and lots of buttons left. Buttons that were lovely! Often whole cards of buttons. Often multiple cards of the same buttons. But still, buttons I was probably not going to use. And I want all of these to end up in a good home! So I divided them up into color groups, and I was thinking maybe some of you might let me rehome a couple of these with you.

Now here’s the plan. I’m not allowed to do anything that is based on pure chance on Patreon, and we are good guests and we follow the rules of our hosts. So instead we’re making this a contest. Officially. More or less.

If you’d like one of these to show up in your mailbox, leave a comment on this patreon post in which you guess the weight of this bin of buttons, AND tell me which of the color families you like. I’ve got pictures of them labelled below. (If you don’t care what color, it’s also cool to just say any of them is fine.)

Ok but here’s the thing. You’re welcome to guess the weight in actual units of measure, but you can also guess the weight in a more metaphorical sense. Because wow does my own personal button jar bear the weight of that favorite jacket I saved the buttons off of and that project I meant to make but never got around to and that person I love whose buttons I inherited. And that’s much more interesting as far as I’m concerned.

Some time early next week I’ll pick a comment for each of the color families, send that person a message on there, ask for their address (I need a US shipping address), and pop a stack of wee padded envelope of buttons in the mail.

For now I’m going to keep this particular post to paid patreon folks, but I’ll also probably do another one of these for everyone and send out some scoops from the mixed bucket on that one. Just because I want to get as many of these into hands that will use them as possible!
