For those thinking ‘erm, have you seen a foot? do you know how those work?’ in response to the revelation that the not-a-snail was in fact a slipper, perhaps this will help. Esmeralda has lent us her foot modeling services.

The bit on the back is a heel flap, and the other bit is the sides of the foot. It is worked flat for a while then joins up and is worked in the round down through the toe. It’s fairly similar to the foot part of a top down sock with a heel flap (just you leave a hole in the top to put your foot in through).

Bonus points for being worked with nice fat yarn, so it’s much faster than your usual sock.

But never fear, I do indeed have a fairly good grasp on feet and the ways in which one might swathe them in knitted fabric! Even if it does sometimes look a bit perplexing along the way…
