Monthly Reminder

This month is the four year anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the case that overturned Roe v. Wade. In those four years, millions of people have lost their fundamental right to bodily autonomy, thousands of of people have suffered needlessly as they or the people they loved were denied timely and compassionate medical care, hundreds of people have been persecuted for their pregnancy outcomes, and horrifying numbers of pregnant people and infants have died.
But that’s not enough for the ghouls who support this, so they’re continuing to further restrict abortion (and access to other reproductive care) and to punish people who seek or facilitate it. It’s all part of their plan to keep women from being full and active participants in society with agency over their bodies (because that’s one of things fascists always try to do).
Jessica Valenti, the creator of the absolutely amazing Abortion Every Day, has a heartbreakingly thorough breakdown of the horrors of the last four years over here: jessica.substack.com/p/dobbs-anniversary-attacks-guide. You should absolutely be following her (and supporting her if you can), she’s the absolute best voice on this issue and my strongest recommendation if you’re just going to follow one person to stay informed.

The single best thing you can do to protect yourself and your community is to make sure you’re prepared if you find yourself pregnant and don’t want to be.
You can get abortion pills to have on hand in case you need them. They’re safe and effective, you can get them everywhere (even in states with bans), you can get them before you’re pregnant (they last for at least 3-5 years if stored properly), and you can get them for free if you can’t afford them.
I think AidAccess.org is the best place to get them (because they are out of the US and do not give a single fuck about US laws), and PlanCPills.org has lots of other options as well.
How to do it Anyway, by Hazel Acacia is a great zine with all sorts of information on what to expect. You can download a free copy or order one for the cost of production right over here: https://www.tangledwilderness.org/zines/how-to-do-it-anyway-a-guide-to-self-managing-an-abortion-at-home. Keep a copy with your pills so you’ll have everything in one place if you ever need it.
This is an ongoing fight, and you should be involved with it!
That means staying informed, raising hell with your elected representatives, voting for whoever will do the least harm (even if you don’t love everything about them), supporting the people and organizations working so hard to keep us safer and more informed, being as outspoken as you safely can with your friends, family, and community about your values, and doing whatever you can to keep you and your people safe.

That’s why we make a monthly donation to the folks doing the work, and why I shout about it once a month. (That and it does a good job of encouraging anyone who isn’t my sort of person to see themselves quietly out! I know we’ve got a lot of new folks here at the moment, and if you’re bothered by any of this, please feel free to go. No need to kick up a fuss on your way out, you won’t be missed.) Because fuck these assholes, we’re not putting up with their bullshit!

There is an absolute gutpunch of a list over here with accounts of (some…only some…you know as well as I do that there are far more that were never shared) people who died, had care denied or delayed, experienced catastrophic medical consequences, or faced criminal investigations because of the barbaric abortion restrictions in this country: amwa-doc.org/our-work/improving-healthcare/reproductive-healthcare/dobbs-impact/.

I’ve been doing these Monthly Reminder posts ever since I launched Tiny Nonsense. I think this is the 45th post, and there’s lots of useful info and good links and sources in the previous ones. Wander back through there if you’re looking for more!
