Block everything…no really, everything
I'm pretty sure I've given the 'no, really, block EVERYTHING' lecture plenty of times. But I figured I'd offer proof that I really do believe it. I was knitting a little puffy heart (don't judge, I needed a distraction). But I realized somewhere along the way that I both wanted to block it...and that I didn't want to throw a stuffed anything in a sink full of water. So I knit it up to this point, soaked it, blocked it, stuffed it, and closed it all up. I think it looks, as always, so much better after that little soak. [...]
Absolutely useless
I was waiting for yarn to come, and I was feeling antsy. So I decided to do something absolutely and completely useless. This has no practical purpose. Absolutely none at all. And yet, yet I find myself amused. And sometimes, that's all you can ask for.
Circumvolute (plus giveaway)
I think it's time we have a new pattern, don't you? Around here there's still plenty of time to bang out a hat or two before spring starts flirting with us, and Circumvolute is a lovely choice. Now, I don't know about you, but lately I've been seeing lots and lots and lots of lovely speckled yarns. Usually I see one, fall hopelessly in love, buy it, take it home, then swatch and swatch and swatch and never quite sort out something that works with the yarn. But these hats fix that. I finally figured out that speckled yarn likes [...]
More and then more
First one grew... And before I knew it it was done. Oh and then hey look...somehow another one leapt onto the needles. Funny how that happens! The yarn is Squish DK by Spun Right Round in Bug Jar, and the hat pattern in this yarn will be out tomorrow if you need to play with it yourself!
All mine
I feel downright devious...the hat pattern in this yarn is coming next week. The pictures are done. The pattern is done. It's all set up and ready to go and I love it to pieces. And now? Now I have grabbed the tiny bits of leftover yarn and am just playing. I'm making myself some teeny tiny afterthought cuffs to go along with the hats. Just for fun, just to use up the extra yarn, just because I can. They're not going into a pattern (the won't even be done by the time the hats come out), they don't need [...]
Two at a time
Cuff the second is well underway. And it's actually gotten seasonably cold around here, so I'm eager to have them done (and photographed...around here 'done' also includes 'has had proper pattern photos taken') so I can wear them. I'm totally holding the green yarn (it's Silk Cloud by Shibui) double as I work it. That's both to make it a bit more substantial (though really, it's pretty darn sturdy even with just one layer, I love how these cuffs worked with just one strand came out) and to give me a bit more of that delightful halo you get with [...]
Just a bit more
Remember the gray hats with the yellow speckles? These pretty things? They're coming out next week (if you want me to remind you when they come, you can make that happen here). But I cheated and took pictures of them back in October when we were in Maine, so I've been wearing them for the last few months. And I've come to the realization that I totally want some sort of hand thing to go with them. Now, there's not much yarn left...and what there is differs a bit skein to skein. One skein has heavier speckles than the other, [...]
Faith
No really...I totally know it looks funny. I do. But I've been trying it on and I have faith in the powers of blocking, and I am pretty darn confident it will work out. I sort of love the way it sits on my hand. I'm finding myself fond of asymmetry these days. And I'm also sort of loving putting it on inside out and folding the top part back and giving it a bracelet feel. And yes, it will look much better after I weave in the ends and block it properly. But I totally think it's going to [...]
Chicken
So the hat needed some cuffs to go with it (this pretty much always feels like the go to move in my world...I love having matching head and hand things more than I can possibly explain). But I knew I was rather short on yarn. So I carefully carefully divided the yarn in half (if you don't have a scale, do yourself a favor and get one, I have and love this one). Then I cast on and distracted myself as I slogged through a tube of ribbing. Then came the ever so much more entertaining swoopy bits. And the [...]
