Tiny Nonsense

There’s still a hole in my sweater

It's true...the hole (or rather holes) are  still there.  But I find I don't mind them so much now! Full disclaimer, I know next to nothing about embroidery.  Which should be fairly obvious to anyone who does know something about it.  So apologies if you're cringing over there. My approach really is more or less keep doodling until it starts to look interesting.  I think it's a viable technique, all things considered. I mean really, if you hate it, you can pick it back out.  And I sort of don't hate it.  I might actually rather like it! So what [...]

Play time, part 2

Ok, so I'm not that mean.  I won't keep you waiting too long.  Because really?  No one should have to wait for this. I mean it's practically electric.  Totally cannot get enough (and I'm usually fairly immune to the charms of blue, but somehow this totally does it for me). But the thing I find really interesting is how differently each base took the color.  From left to right that's Matrika, Zenith, Apex, Meridian, and Corona, all from Seven Sisters Arts.  Just as a reminder, they looked like this undyed. And ok, maybe you'd expect the Apex (the gray one [...]

Play time, part 1

My job is awesome.  I mean yes, sometimes I spend too much time with boxes and labels and tape.  But I also get invited to go visit with fabulous dyers and play with their yarn.  And really, that makes up for an awful lot of time spent packing boxes! While we were up in Maine, Karen of Seven Sisters Arts asked if I'd like to come over and play.  You know I love her yarn (I used it most recently in Pelagic, and before she opened Seven Sisters Arts, she was half of String Theory, and I've used a ridiculous [...]

There’s a hole in my sweater

So I have a small assemblage of house sweaters.  What can I say.  The house is old and drafty, and I work from home.  Warmth often wins out over fashion. One of my very favorite house sweaters (a gray cashmere cardigan with pockets) seems to have sprung a leak.  Let me be more specific.  It's sprung several leaks.  It's got a good sized hole on the back of the shoulder (snagged on a dead tree while climbing on rocks), two little holes on the front near the bottom (embers from a camp fire if the char marks are any indicator), [...]

Much in the manner of a toe

Well then, that's progress! That might even qualify as substantial progress. One slipper down (and really, the first one is always the hardest because it's the one where you have to make all the decisions), and the next one should be underway shortly.  There's hope I'll have them finished before it gets cold yet!

Spicule (plus giveaway)

Want a hat?  Wait, actually, want three hats?  Maybe with a little something extra thrown in for fun? Because if so, I think Spicule might be just the thing. That's three lovely, snuggly, cozy hats (just perfect for the cold weather that I suspect will arrive any day now). Plus three unspeakably adorable ornament versions that will look just darling dangling from your tree or tied on top of a present (massive massive bonus points if you knit someone a hat, wrap it up, and put the ornament sized version on top of the package as a present topper). Now [...]

Nearly

This has just come together beautifully.  I just need another inch or so and then a toe. And I cannot wait to block it and see what this halo does.  I'm secretly hoping it gets even fluffier, because it's pretty much the coziest thing ever. And I'm feeling much more confident that I have enough yarn.  I was worried there for a bit, but I think it was just that the put up was different than what I'm used to and it felt terrifyingly empty at the end.  But once I wound it into a little ball, it felt much [...]

All tangled up

You're going to have to pardon me, I'm busy being all tangled up in this cable.  I can't get enough of it! I'm also dong that thing where, despite having a pretty good grasp on yardage and how much things take, I'm starting to feel just a leeeeeettle nervous about finishing these with the yarn I have.  Wish me luck...

As advertised

The slipper, as promised, continues to grow and to look much the same.  It's actually a good bit longer than this now, but it's cold outside and I'm far far too cozy inside to go out and take it's picture.  Use your imagination, I have faith in you. And meanwhile, to distract you, perhaps I'll show off the set of three hats coming out next Tuesday.  That should do the job, right?
