Because one is never enough
The hat continues to grow, and I continue to be hopelessly smitten with it. It starts out with the rows of doobly-dos all squinched up together, but then as you go along they spread out. I love having things taper off like that. It makes it feel like the hat is picking up momentum as you go along (because the fancy rows do take a bit more time than the plain ones). Yarn is Tosh Vintage in Smokestack (the gray one) and Tosh Merino Light in Alizarin (the pink one), and I'm loving the combo! Just in time
This is growing, and I'm loving it. And apparently we're going to have one last snowstorm (oh please let it be this winter's last...I'm so ready for spring), so maybe I'll get some time to tuck in and finish it up. The wee twirly bits are going to spread out and become more sparse as we head to the top of the hat, so it should get even faster as I work along. And yes, yes I have already started day dreaming of what to do for the third in this 'gray background, funky secondary yarn' thing I'm playing with [...]
I’m sensing a theme
I'm sort of loving this mellow gray yarn as a background, funky colorful single for an accent thing. I think there may end up being a few of these. So far it's going well. And you know I love how it came out for the hat that just came out. I think there just might be something to this... Clipping along
The hat is done. And with any luck at all, the cold that kept things quiet around here for the last few days is done too. Now clearly this needs to be blocked, but I'm rather pleased with it. And, in a stunning fit of uncharacteristic forethought, I actually took really good notes while I knit it. The pattern is already written and off with testers. All that means there's a pretty darn good chance it will be March's pattern! [pextestim pex_attr_set="looking-for-this-pattern" pex_attr_autoplay="false"][/pextestim]
Damn damn damn
Do you see what I see? Right there? Middle row of Vs? Just to the left of center? See how two of them aren't twisted at the top. Yeah. Yeah that's no good at all. That has to be fixed. But there's no chance I'm ripping all that back. So instead? Instead I'm doing knitting surgery. Gather your courage, drop the offending stitch down, get back to where the problem is, and work it back up (being very very careful not to mess up the stranding at the top...trust me on this one). Once it's back up, you can't tell [...]
Go away I’m knitting
I'm having a hard time putting this down. It's so pretty (and so ridiculously fun to do) that all I want to do is work on it. Alas, I'm supposed to do things like sleep and ship boxes and feed myself and finish up the next book and possibly do a bit of laundry from time to time. But wow this is all I want to do... Next
So I feel like I'm having a 'colors without colorwork' sort of phase. There's the green and gray wavy set I just finished, and the stripey pink and purple business I just put up for testing, and of course there's Pelagic. But I didn't feel quite done. So then there was this. Which turned into this. Which then turned into this. Yarn is Madeline Tosh, Merino DK in Flashdance (purple) and Vintage in Smokestack (gray), and I'm expecting great things! Circumvolute (plus giveaway)
I think it's time we have a new pattern, don't you? Around here there's still plenty of time to bang out a hat or two before spring starts flirting with us, and Circumvolute is a lovely choice. Now, I don't know about you, but lately I've been seeing lots and lots and lots of lovely speckled yarns. Usually I see one, fall hopelessly in love, buy it, take it home, then swatch and swatch and swatch and never quite sort out something that works with the yarn. But these hats fix that. I finally figured out that speckled yarn likes [...]
So worth it
Done! And all the ripping (yes, even of lace weight mohair) was totally worth it. The wobbly lines wobble in an ever so much more pleasingly rounded way. The whole thing has retained its endearing rocket ship vibe. I expect it all to mellow out a fair bit with blocking. And even the crown (admittedly less energetic than most of mine, but still satisfying) is amusing me. Now, of course, I think we need some cuffs to match, don't you?
