Fastest Decreases Ever
The rainbow sparkle pony is ready to be done. It's tall enough (no really, this is the One True Way to check hat height for fast decreasing hats...all stitches on two needles, hold the needles together, try it on...if it fits, it's tall enough). And as for those decreases? Well I think I'm going to do them like this! Tell me I'm not crazy for trying it. It's at the very least going to be amusing!
Now we block
So this is off to be blocked, but I'm fairly confident it's going to be grand! There's the outside (as you're working it, I'm officially calling it reversible though, so how you wear it will be up to you). And the inside. Still unsure which I like better. I'm leaning ever so slightly to the outside, but that's just because I want the purl side of the brim to show. Awfully pleased with this one!
The end is in sight
This continues to be a tube of stockinette. And that continues to hold my attention pretty much exactly as much as you'd think it would. The only thing keeping me going is that I have A Plan for the top of the hat, and I'm just itching to see if it will be as cute as I think it will. But it's anyone's guess as to whether that will provide enough engagement to get me through another few inches...
Oh hey, that looks rather like a hat…
I think it's done. Of course I'm going to put the stitches on a safety pin or two and wear it around for an hour to make sure I don't want it any taller before I break the yarn (totally normal around these parts). But I *think* it's done! Pattern should be out soon (meaning 'this winter' not 'this week'). If you want to hear from me when it comes out, you can make that happen over here!
Tall Enough
If you've found this from pinterest, welcome! The pattern is called Constellate and it's available now on ravelry. If you'd like to hear from me when more patterns like this come out, you can make that happen over here. The hat is almost done, which means we're in that awkward phase where I wonder constantly if it's tall enough and try it on every few rows. I want to do Really Fast Decreases on this hat, the sort that happen over just a few rows (like maybe 7?), and that means the hat doesn't get any taller during the decreases. [...]
Rainbow Sparkle Pony Revenge
There's obviously some sort of illicit substance coating this yarn. That's the only explanation for why I'm actually still working on this. I don't' think I've ever knit this much stockinette in my life. Still not sure if I love it or hate it...I mean I think I'll wear the heck out of it, but knitting it is not what you'd call scintillating. How do you folks who knit things with lots of stockinette do it?
Still undecided
Still totally not sure which one I like better...what do you guys think? Outside as I'm working it? Or inside as I'm working it? I know I like the mostly purl side best for the brim. So, because I wanted a folded brim, I knit it with the mostly knit side facing out (so that when I cuff it, the mostly purl side will face out). But that would be easy to swap around if you knew you wanted it the other way around.
A or B?
All that pesky perseverance paid off, I made it through the ribbing, and I'm on to the pretty bits. And I've had a bit of a lovely surprise. The inside of this is turning out to be super interesting in it's own right. I need to get a few more repeats done before I'll have a good sense of it, but it's very promising so far! The yarn is Tosh Merino Light in Calligraphy, and yes it is a single (and it's behaving quite well so far, which is always a bit iffy with singles). Loving it so far!
Persevere
So I have a bit of a conflict. First, I love nice deep cuffed brims on hats...four full inches minimum (to give you two inches of cuffed over fabric when it's folded). Second, I get distracted about four rows into ribbing. That gets us to here. Which is about 3 inches of ribbing. So I'm both bored out of my mind, and absolutely sure it needs at least another full inch to be as awesome as it can be. Send help.
