One down
Well then, that came together rather nicely. That zig-zag thing is way more entertaining than it has any right to be (and easy too, it's just cables). And with something that showy going on in front, it seemed best to keep the rest of it fairly plain, so the thumb is nicely understated. The second of the pair is on the needles and should be done in the next few weeks (the slipper may be taking an unfair share of my attention just now, so it may take a bit longer than you'd think). And yes there will totally be [...]

Every now and then we have to remind our yarn who's boss. If it helps you can totally chant 'I am smarter than the yarn, I am smarter than the yarn, I am smarter than the yarn' under your breath. Totally worth it in the end though, you'd never know it threw a little fit.
I didn’t forget
So normally I'm a one project knitter. I almost never have two projects on the go at once. But the slipper distracted me and I jumped ship, right in the middle of the zig-zag mitt. Lovely though the slippers are, I haven't totally abandoned the mitt. It is getting a thumb now and really only needs about two more hours of knitting to be done. Of course then I have to make the second one, and I'm pretty sure second sock syndrome isn't unique to socks... Oh, and just in case you missed it earlier, the little special on first [...]
Yup, yup totally cute
Someone linked to this on pinterest, and we've had lots of folks stopping by (hi, welcome!). If you're looking for the pattern, it's called Tacit and it's live on ravelry now. And if you want to be sure to hear whenever I have a new book or pattern out (plus get a free pattern right now), you can sign up for my mailing list. I told you this would come together. I mean I fully admit last time it looked a bit crumpled and um, nondescript. Let's go with that. But now? Now it's got much more character. And as [...]
Stash dive
Took a dive deep, deep into the stash and found a treasure. It's from the second Sock Summit back in 2011. Stash doesn't normally stick around quite that long in these parts, but this one managed to hang in there. Even better, the company, Ancient Arts Fibre Crafts, is still around and still making lovely yarn. So I cast on. And yes, we are in the crumpled and weird stage of all knitting projects, but I think it's going to be awfully pretty in a few more rows!
Zigzag
These are done, blocked, and ready to join the hat for their photo shoot. Said photo shoot should happen tomorrow, assuming the weather and my determination to get things done hold out. I'm taken with them, really I am. I was worried they (and really the hat that goes with them) would end up being too simple, but I think they're the good kind of simple. The satisfying sort, not the boring sort.
Sets
I'm really bad at just making a hat or just making cuffs or just making a cowl. I like it better when things come in sets. I'll make an exception for when I have just a tiny bit of yarn and am doing a project to use that little bit up. But if I have a whole lovely big pile of yarn, I like sets. Which is why it should surprise no one that the leftover yarn from the most recent hat leapt onto the needles and did something like this. And very shortly later, it did something like this. [...]
And Done
Thumbs all tidy and done! Done on the second try I might add. I very cleverly knit them on one-size-too-small needles the first time through (and only recognized it after I'd bound off thank you very much). But a quick fit of swearing and ripping took care of it and now both are done. And someday it may be cold enough to wear them!
Slouch
The second mitt is done (well, they need thumbs, but done enough to try on and admire). I'm loving how slouchy they are. I made them a bit bigger than I normally would for a cuff (no negative ease, pretty much exactly my wrist circumference), and between that and the big, deep cable they are delightfully slouchy. I mean you could keep them tugged out and straight, but left to their own devices, they will crumple up perfectly. I think it goes beautifully with the hat, which is quite slouchy too. Actually, I think I owe you a picture of [...]
