Petiole

Petiole is out!  This was my super speedy "it's cold and I have to wear a coat and I don't want to wear a coat...so I'll distract myself with a hat" project.  I'm sure that says something unflattering about my mental faculties, but I like the hat, and I didn't freeze to death from refusing to wear a coat, so apparently it worked.  The wrist warmers were just a bonus squeezed out of the few yards leftover when the hat was done. I made both projects (in a size medium) out of one skein of Aslan Trends Bariloche in Tango [...]

Trifurcate

The pattern for Trifurcate hat and mitts is ready to go.  You've been watching this set for a while now.  You know that it was my first hat (though not my last) and that it was made for a friend who's having a rough couple of months.  Now it feels a bit shady to profit from my friend's misfortune, so at the end of the year, any profits from this pattern are going to her favorite charity, Providence House. If your Thanksgiving weekend features a bit of down time, you can whip these up in no time.  If, by some [...]

And Now…

Alright.  You've been patient.  Well, no.  You haven't.  You've been almost as impatient as I have.  But really -- that is even better than being patient, because that means you guys are excited too.  So now for the promised information. As of today, we are taking preorders for the book Silk Road Socks: 14 Patterns Inspired by Oriental Rugs! You can place orders over at Silk Road Socks.  The book will be available in traditional print form and also in a variety of electronic formats.  All the details are spelled out on the book's site (where you'll also find sneak [...]

Dippers Redux

As promised, the cleaned up version of Dippers is now available.  Again, the old one wasn't exactly wrong -- lots of people made them with great success.  It just wasn't quite as tidy as I wanted it to be.  And, again, alas, no new pictures.  Apparently socks get fuzzy and less photogenic after more than a year of heavy wear. Next week I'll be back with book news (the kind with pictures and dates and specific plans).

Slant Redux

The spiffed up version of Slant is now up.  It's two pages shorter, and yet contains more actual useful information.  I told you I was shamelessly chatty back then.  Alas, I could not get new pictures for you.  I still have the socks, but a year and a half of wear have rendered them more than a bit fuzzy.  You'll have to make do with the old ones.  Dippers is undergoing a similar treatment and should be up later this week.

Shows Continued Improvement

You know how you look back on those (dreadfully earnest and sickeningly leaden) papers you wrote your first year of college and just wince?  Or maybe it's entries in your high school journal or your first few blog entries that make you cringe.   Well I did that the other day.  Not with papers, but with my early patterns. Popped was my first pattern, and I didn't know what in the world I was doing back then.  Luckily, that one got totally revamped somewhere along the way as part of it's release through Knit Picks Independent Designer Program, so it's fine [...]

Gramercy

As I explained once before, I started designing socks mostly through an (oh so fetching) combination of laziness, bossiness, and inability to follow directions.  I kept it up because knitters seem to be disproportionately awesome and kept making me feel good.  Designing has turned into an important part of my life and has let me do all sorts of things I never thought I'd do.  I've met marvelous people, gone off on exciting trips, and am almost done with my first book.  How cool is that? I mean really, who would have ever thought knitting socks would turn into all [...]

Scatterling, part the second

Just a quick update.  Back in May, I mentioned that the pattern for Scatterling was up over at Knitcircus.  Their 3 month term over there is up (the new fall issue should be out any day), so now they're available here.   They're a nice versatile (unisex and stretchy) sock written in 2 sizes.  Perhaps they'd be a good start to your <whisper>Christmas knitting</whisper>? Also, thanks to everyone who voted in the SKA poll.  I'm going to be the designer for October.  That's a bit before the book comes out, but I'm going to see if I can't come up [...]

Patterns and Yarn and Pictures Oh My

Alrighty, after much delay (we're pretending it's so I could take the socks far away for a photo shoot, not because I was lazy) the pattern for Peregrinate is out. I had great fun with these.  They came with me on my trip to DC for Savor and on my trips to Rochester and Pontiac to see Jukebox the Ghost and on a few other smaller trips too.  The vast majority of them were knit on the road, which seems fitting given the name.  I finished them shortly before my excursion to Port Ludlow, so I thought it was only [...]
