Nope Nope Nope
Every once in a while I get a string of comments in quick succession, and the cumulative effect of them leaves me feeling a bit cranky. I'm sure this makes me a big meany pants. But I am a big meany pants with my very own handy dandy website, so I can actually take a moment and write about two of these kinds of comments all at once and then point people here if they come up again. So without further ado, two things I will not do for you (even if you call me names). Put the pattern out [...]
Closer
Someone swing by and bang this out for me, mkay? It's close. I think I need like four more repeats of the pattern and a toe. Which shouldn't take long, but then again I sort of feel like I have the attention span of a gnat this week. Curls 2 is just about to go off to the printer (days people, days away) and I always get a little frazzled at this point. The good news is I know it's just part of the process and am not freaked out by it anymore. But it still cuts into that productive [...]
So we’re going to need a pair
Slipper the Second is well underway. I'm just about to start the decreases (which always feels like cheating because it gets faster and faster). And very shortly after that I'll join up and knit in the round (which I like much better than knitting flat if we're being honest). So in theory, these should only need a few more hours of knitting. But in reality, I'm hoping this weekend features an awful lot of napping (and I've not yet learned to knit while I nap), so there's a good chance this will look suspiciously unchanged come Monday morning.
Treasures (plus a mystery I could use some help with)
Earlier this week, I found myself typing 'card catalog' into my local craigslist page. This is a thing that happens rather more often than you might expect (along with 'barrister bookcase,' 'dress form,' and 'library,' so now you know all my secrets). Now usually this returns either nothing (most of the time) or some Staggeringly Expensive Bit of Epic Grandiosity (less often, but when it does it's notable). But this time...this time it did something else. This time it showed me a listing for a reasonably-sized, reasonably-priced treasure somewhere not too far away. So I sent a few emails, made [...]
Slipper Phase
So I think I'll just let this one speak for itself, ok? Look at that heel, so tidy I could just about die. The cast on is right there, but you really really can't see it. Doesn't look too bad off the foot either, come to think of it. And yes, slipper two is on the needles. There will totally totally be a pattern. It might not be quite what you think of when you say 'soon,' (I've got to write something about that actually...there's a surprising amount still to be done after the knitting is finished and before the [...]
Nearly
The slipper is very nearly done. It's at the point where I am obsessively trying it on to figure out when I need to start the toe (soon, the answer is very very soon). It's finally at the point where it more or less makes sense to look at, so I figured I'd show it off. So that's laid flat (heel at the right, I'm knitting toward the toes). But it's also dense enough that it will more or less stand up on its own, and it's way easier to see that way. I actually sort of love how it [...]
Diluvian (plus giveaway)
It's possible I shouldn't be this entertained by a sock. In fact I probably shouldn't be (or at least I shouldn't admit in public). But I can't help it. Diluvian hit pretty much every one of my sock sweet spots, and I'm delighted to bring them back out. Now in my heart of hearts, I think it's hard to beat the fit of a basic ribbed sock. But I also find basic ribbed socks boring...boring to knit, boring to look at, just totally not worth the trouble. But give them a bit of a twist? Sneak in some dropped stitches? [...]
One to go
Number two on the way! Does anybody else sort of do the math on how many stitches a project has and how many you've done and keep obsessive track of your progress? Or is it too depressing? Anyone want to guess just how many stitches are in one of those mitts? It's way more than I thought... Oh, and just a tiny heads up. Diluvian are coming back out Tuesday. They're sort of a secret favorite of mine, and I'm thrilled to be bringing them back. Be sure you're on the mailing list if you want a heads up (and [...]
New and Improved
The new slipper is coming together nicely. I think this version will stick! It's weirdly difficult to make sense of it at this stage, but maybe it will help to see it sort of propped up. The bit that's knit so far wraps around (and under) your heel. In a bit, I'll join to work in the round and then it will head toward my toes like a regular sock. Should be comfy (and I already know it's cute!). I'm unreasonably pleased with how scalloped the edge looks.
