Tiny bubbles
So I totally haven't decided if these look like bubbles or seed pods or bug wings or leaves or something else entirely. But I have decided they look awesome. And that they make me unreasonably happy. They even look nifty on the backside! [pextestim pex_attr_set="looking-for-this-pattern" pex_attr_autoplay="false"][/pextestim]
Heads up
This lovely little bit of business is coming one week from today. I used a skein of Hedgehog Fibres' Skinny Singles in Ghost (it took me a little less than 300 yards), just in case you want to do a quick stash dive or a bit of yarn procurement before it comes out! This is the perfect thing to do with single ply yarns (which can be a bit delicate, so hats are a perfect choice). And of course the pattern will be written so you can easily use fingering, sport, or dk weight yarn. And as always, folks on [...]
Yarn fairy
From time to time I get an idea, I chat with someone about that idea, and then yarn comes in the mail. Pretty pretty yarn. Yarn that will come together into what I hope will be rather magical. If the speckly bit looks familiar, that's because it's from Ontheround and it's what I used to knit the heart on circs the other day. It's their Everyday DK. And the rainbow one is their Everyday Lite in Silver Lining Rainbow. And I suspect the two are going to have no end of fun together! There will be swatching. Lots and lots [...]
Worth it
So the brim is a slog. It always is. Every time. And I'm totally upfront about how the last five inches of the five and a half inch brim are not my most fun bit of knitting ever. But...if you put in your time and you put in your stitches and eventually you're done. And then? Then you get to do the fun bit! And here the fun bit is awfully fun. That's just a really pretty little stitch. And every single row of the brim will be worth it when I love wearing it! Normal stuff applies...yes it will be [...]
Well stocked
Today's Yarn Love Challenge prompt was multiples. And it seemed like a fine reason to dig out some of my DPNs and show them off. These are just my long ones (like 12 inches and up), and they're grouped by size, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s. You can see that I have several sets of at least a couple of those. Especially the 3s as I find those are my favorite for hats and cowls (and I've got an extra set of 2 and a new set of 1.5s on the way). The pile of short [...]
Tiny giants
We're having a KAL for Palpitation, and I'd be delighted if you joined us! I find I want to knit a few more of these, but it feels like some sort of breach of etiquette to knit in my own KAL. So I'm going to pretend that what I'm doing is using a few more hearts as a way to talk about some finer points of making these. But we all know what I'm really doing is indulging myself and making a few more. But don't tell anyone, ok? Persevere
I know in my secret heart that I am happiest with a nice deep brim. I know, I really really KNOW that this means a minimum of five inches of ribbing (which when you fold it in half and stretch it onto your head turns into more like two and a half inches of brim). So why am I trying this on now. Now when it is clearly not yet five inches. Because that right there is the quickest way to ensure a hat languishes at the bottom of the hat bin, never to be worn. Maybe some day I'll [...]
Yarn Love Challenge
Are you guys following the #yarnlovechallenge festivities over on instagram? If not, you totally should be! I love following it (even if I only occasionally manage to post to it). But it seems I do write an awful lot on instagram these days (often more than on the blog), so if you're looking for more of my blather, that's the place to get it. You can find me right here.
And after the swatches comes the cast on
All those swatches? All those many many many swatches? Well now that they've led to a stitch I'm happy with, now it's time to start the project. I'm going to have to do a post about how I cast on at some point...there are a lot of fuzzy ideas about cast ons floating around out there, and we should have a chat. But for now, I'm talking myself into slogging through a good five inches of brim, and that's taking all my motivation. Remind me how I pretty much only wear hats with nice folded brims, and so it's worth [...]
