Hey so it’s bad out there. No like really bad. Like arresting people for miscarriages and a hospital canceling a woman’s sterilization to “protect her sacred fertility” and Louisiana trying to stop abortion pills from being available through the mail anywhere in the country and Kentucky introducing a bill that would let people who have abortions be charged with murder and nominating for Surgeon General a person who called hormonal birth control a “disrespect of life.” And that’s all in the last few weeks (and is by no means a thorough accounting of The Current Horrors).

So what do you do? Long term, we kick these fascist fucks out of office and fix our healthcare system so that everyone has access to the care they need. (And if you’re really really really against abortion? Well then you get to work making it so that everyone, absolutely every single person in the whole country, has paid parental leave and free childcare and good schools and safe housing and accessible healthcare and a living wage. Because financial pressures are one of the most common reasons people have abortions, and those are real damn easy to resolve if we decide we want to.)

And short term, you make sure you have abortion pills in your medicine cabinet in case you need them. They’re safe and effective, you can get them now (even if you’re not pregnant) just in case you need them later, and you can get them for free if you can’t afford them.

Aid Access will send them to you, no matter where you are. There are lots of other places to get them (like Hey Jane and Plan C), but I like Aid Access because they are based in the Netherlands and give not one single solitary fuck about shitty american laws.

That’s an attitude we all need more of. Because when the folks making the laws are this morally bankrupt, sometimes good people will find themselves with an ethical obligation to ignore bad laws.

So fuck those assholes. Find something you you can do to help them out of office. And take care of yourself and your community.
