Ok so this is one of the least photogenic things ever to grace my personal corner of the internet, but dammit all, I’m proud of myself! I felt fretful yesterday (gee, wonder why, it’s not like the nominal leader of the free world has clearly lost every single one of his marbles and needs to be put in time out for threatening massive war crimes or anything), and the best response to that feeling for me is often to Do Something Physically Challenging.

So I decided to organize all the mail club/kit stuff that’s been slowly taking over my office/dining room/porch for the last year. So I swept the garage, emptied this huge shelf, took it apart, dragged it across the garage to the bay that shall henceforth be known as The Shipping Annex, reassembled it, and loaded it up with all (cough, most, cough) of the stuff I use to pack and ship things.

And then I dragged (and oh, I do mean dragged, for it weighs a solid 150lbs) the chemistry lab table that a friend found for me on facebook over to be a work/packing surface. Yes it is glorious, yes it really came out of a school, and yes there is fossilized gum on the underside. There’s a second one that’s going to be pressed into service in the same way, but it’s currently holding all (cough, most, cough, some) of the stuff that was on the shelves before this uncharacteristic spurt of industry came upon me. It’s an iterative process.

Does this mean the other side of the garage looks like a tornado blew through? Yes, yes it does. Can you park in that side of the garage right now? Not just at the moment. But my office (and dining room, and porch) are ever so much tidier. And in a little bit, once the ibuprofen has kicked in and I’ve had a nap and a meal, I will sort that other stuff out. Certainly before it gets to be winter again (I say…in early April…remind me of this in a few weeks if I’ve not updated you).

But right now? Right now I’m basking in the feeling of having Brought Order To ONE TINY CORNER Of The World, even if everything else is sort of on fire. And I know it’s not nearly as pretty as the stuff I usually show you, but I’m actually really proud of myself for having turned this little business into something that needs a shipping annex. Thanks for liking what I do enough that I need to rearrange the garage to accommodate it. That’s pretty damn cool!

Now…tell me something you’ve done that you’re proud of (you can watch a video of this over there, too, if you’re so inclined). Bonus points if it’s not at all aesthetic. I want to hear about the garbage disposal you unstuck or the mystery smell you located or the basement box you finally tackled or the treasure you rescued from underneath the pile of desiccated french fries behind the car seat. Because wow is adulthood not nearly as glamorous as you’d think, and it helps to know we’re all out here getting a little filthy sometimes!
