Tiny Nonsense

Mountains and Valleys

So it's done (yay), and my current biggest dilemma is whether I want to wear it so the mountain part is in front (so this side would be facing forward). Or with the valley part is in front (so this side would be facing forward). I suspect the actual answer will be 'however the heck it's oriented when I yank it out of my coat pocket is just fine thank you very much.'  But it's possible other folks are more concerned with the nuances of fashion than I am.  Some time soon here I'll show off the crown of this [...]

And now we knit

This is at the point where we just go round and round and round until it's tall enough. Which shouldn't take too terribly much longer.  Maybe a few more inches... And, as usual, this one will have quick quick quick decreases (I have a plan for this little pinwheel looking thing I think will be awesome), so I'm trying it on like this every few rows to see how it fits.  Won't be long now!   [pextestim pex_attr_set="looking-for-this-pattern" pex_attr_autoplay="false"][/pextestim]

Bigger and bigger

The hat continues to grow. I continue to like how ribbing looks and behaves slightly (ever so slightly) more than I dislike actually knitting it. And I am quite looking forward to watching these go careening about.  It should just about be consolation for all that ribbing. We're going to have to have a long chat about those increases at some point.  They're just lifted increases, but fiddled about with just a bit to keep them nicely matched.  I'm dearly hoping I can find someone else that has done a lovely, thorough explanation of them and just point at that.  [...]

Constellate (plus giveaway)

Let's start the new year off with something special, shall we?  How about we get an awesome little hat on your needles.  I think Constellate might be just the thing! There's something undeniably satisfying about this hat.  It is, at its core, just a plain ribbed hat.  One by three ribbing, about as classic as it gets.  But that lovely little loopy stitch just adds something sort of magical. And don't worry, it's totally easy to do.  On most rows you'll just work that lovely, soothing ribbing.  But every now and then, you'll do a little magic trick to make [...]

Two down

One mitt two mitt red mitt blue mitt (well...purple mitts, but we'll call that a fair interpretation of the text). And, just because it's how these things go around here, a hat sort of leapt on the needles. to go with it.   [pextestim pex_attr_set="looking-for-this-pattern" pex_attr_autoplay="false"][/pextestim]

Matched

This is one of those tiny tiny things that likely matters to no one but me, but I deeply love how nicely these increases are mirrored.  It's a tiny bit fiddly, and I'll have to explain it all in the pattern, but wow is it satisfying to the part of my brain that thrives on this sort of thing!

Out with a bang

We did it, we made it through 2016, and we're still standing.  I don't know about you, but I think that calls for a bit of a celebration. Now admittedly, my idea of a celebration tends to involve tucking up at home with my favorite tea and some really fabulous yarn.  But I have a feeling I'm not alone in this.  If that's your idea of the way to celebrate too, I can help. I've got everything in my ravelry store 15% off through the end of the year (eastern time) with the code SPARKLE.  That works on everything (patterns, [...]

Clicking along

It's grown!  First mitt is more or less sorted save for a thumb. And the second has leapt on the needles and gotten underway. And, as so often happens, the hat is being planned.  Because I intend to wear these all the time, and I totally want to have a hat to match!

Bendy is better

So you know that line in a lot of mitt patterns where I tell you to set aside the thumb stitches on an extra needle or a bit of spare yarn?  Well if you have the option, I really recommend the bit of spare yarn.  Why? Because the yarn will be ever so much bendier than an extra needle would be.  And if you try the mitt on (which you should folks, you really really should), the yarn will give you a much better idea of how it will fit than a stiff needle would. So yes, doing it that [...]
