Tiny Nonsense

Tucked up with yarn

I don't know about you, but I'm happily spending more time than usual tucked up with some yarn and needles for a few days.  And, not surprisingly, the cuff has grown. It's reached the point where it looks a little funny flat. No matter which side you're looking at. But if you whack it on a hand form, things improve dramatically!  That's rather nice if I do say so myself. I think we're going to need a matching hat, don't you?  It seems like the sort of thing that might come in handy (what with the looming January situation).

We’ve seen this before

This project, as with oh so many projects, starts with a bit of ribbing. But before too long, you get to start doing something a bit more interesting. But first, first you need to put in your time with that ribbing.  There's just no way around it. Yarn is Squish DK by Spun Right Round in the color Spellbound, and it's yummy stuff!

Fastest Decreases Ever

The rainbow sparkle pony is ready to be done. It's tall enough (no really, this is the One True Way to check hat height for fast decreasing hats...all stitches on two needles, hold the needles together, try it on...if it fits, it's tall enough). And as for those decreases?  Well I think I'm going to do them like this! Tell me I'm not crazy for trying it.  It's at the very least going to be amusing!

Now we block

So this is off to be blocked, but I'm fairly confident it's going to be grand! There's the outside (as you're working it, I'm officially calling it reversible though, so how you wear it will be up to you). And the inside. Still unsure which I like better.  I'm leaning ever so slightly to the outside, but that's just because I want the purl side of the brim to show.  Awfully pleased with this one!

The end is in sight

This continues to be a tube of stockinette.  And that continues to hold my attention pretty much exactly as much as you'd think it would. The only thing keeping me going is that I have A Plan for the top of the hat, and I'm just itching to see if it will be as cute as I think it will.  But it's anyone's guess as to whether that will provide enough engagement to get me through another few inches...

Oh hey, that looks rather like a hat…

I think it's done.  Of course I'm going to put the stitches on a safety pin or two and wear it around for an hour to make sure I don't want it any taller before I break the yarn (totally normal around these parts).  But I *think* it's done! Pattern should be out soon (meaning 'this winter' not 'this week').  If you want to hear from me when it comes out, you can make that happen over here!

Tall Enough

If you've found this from pinterest, welcome! The pattern is called Constellate and it's available now on ravelry.  If you'd like to hear from me when more patterns like this come out, you can make that happen over here. The hat is almost done, which means we're in that awkward phase where I wonder constantly if it's tall enough and try it on every few rows. I want to do Really Fast Decreases on this hat, the sort that happen over just a few rows (like maybe 7?), and that means the hat doesn't get any taller during the decreases.  [...]

Sedate

So, you know how I sometimes say something like 'oh, this pattern has a lot of reverse stockinette, you'll probably want to pick a somewhat more subdued yarn than you might expect.'  I know I've mentioned it for Cataphyll and Enchase.  Well it occurred to me that the hat I'm working on now is a perfect demonstration of what the heck I mean by that. So here's the outside of the hat, the stockinette side. And here's the inside of it, the reverse stockinette side. See how on the front, when you get to the rainbow bits, they're one row [...]

Flake

Remember back in August, when I was so excited for lovely, long DPNs?  And bought three sets?  And loved them with an undying fervor?  Yeah.  So here's how that turned out. It's a bit hard hard to take a picture of, but if you look closely, you can see that the tip is flaking rather badly.   It's happening to all three sets. I get that needles are tools, and that tools show signs of use over time.  I don't expect tools to last forever.  But I've had the needles for less than five months, and they've only been used for [...]
