Yarn Part the Second
As I mentioned earlier, when I was at Sock Summit, I had the marvelous experience of picking out yarn from several dyers who had asked me to design socks for them. It was great fun, even if it still feels a little bit like crime. One of the talented dyers who asked me to work with her yarn is Lisa, the force behind Dicentra Designs Fiber Arts. After much indecision, I picked out a lovely smooshy skein of purple yarn in a lovely 50-50 alpaca merino mix. The yarn has somehow turned into socks, which then magically turned into a [...]
Filthy Lies
I know I promised information about a new sock pattern in this post. Not only have I kept you waiting a shamefully long time, but it turns out I was full of lies about that new pattern bit. There is a new pattern (there are actually several) and I will natter on about it shortly, but something else simply must be discussed first. That something is the illustrious Mr. Neil Gaiman and his astonishing proximity to my socks. I have photographic proof (and yes this is a shameless homage to Madam Harlot and her traveling photogenic socks - good ideas [...]
Mystery Knit Along
The first part of my first mystery knit along pattern is up. It can be found here. The discussion thread for the project is here. Those are both Ravelry links. The pattern is currently (and will likely remain) available only on Ravelry. If you're not signed up yet, shame on you. There's no longer a waiting list, so you have no excuse. The next three parts of the pattern will come out over the next three weeks at roughly one week intervals. You'll note there is no picture in the pattern (hence the mystery bit). The truth is, I don't [...]
Winner!
The winner of the lovely Shalimar Yarns Zoe Sock is...Kerri at number 14! Thanks so much to everyone who entered. I'm officially sold on these giveaways and will do my best to offer them when I release patterns in the future. Thanks to everyone who entered. Come back Thursday morning for a link to the first part of the pattern for a mystery knit along on Ravelry!
Breaking News
It is, for the first time this fall, officially cold enough that I reached for a pair of thick fuzzy handknit socks to keep my feet warm. I grabbed Slant, and I'm pleased to report they are working quite well. My feet are definitely warmer and there is now no need to do anything drastic like closing the windows. On the business front, the winner of the giveaway will be announced tomorrow, and a new pattern will be released on Thursday.
Xanthophyll
Xanthophyll socks are live, and the pattern is here! To celebrate their release, the folks at Shalimar Yarns have kindly offered to donate a skein of the lovely Zoe Sock yarn I used to make them to one lucky reader. To have a chance to win, just go over to their website, find your favorite color of the Zoe Sock yarn, and leave the name of it in the comments. You can leave other stuff too of course (I find reading comments strangely entertaining) but you have to leave a color name to win. I'll leave the comments open until [...]
The Sun Will Come Out…
Or rather The Boy will come home while the sun has come out. For that unusual confluence of events is really all that is standing in the way of releasing the Xanthophyll socks. They'll be out tomorrow morning! Just as exciting, the marvelous folks over at Shalimar Yarns have agreed to donate a skein of the Zoe Sock in Sapote (the yarn I used to make the socks) to a lucky reader. I'll post the details tomorrow, but it will be another of the 'leave a comment, get a chance to win' sort of things. The next release will be [...]
Colophon
I got overly ambitious and went ahead and released these early! These are simple and fun fingerless mitts designed to use up leftover bits of sock yarn. The airy pattern makes the most of limited quantities of yarn, and the ribbing makes for a very stretchy finished product. These are prefect for gift knitting! The pattern is for sale here, but until the end of the month (11:59 pm eastern time September 30th 2009) it will also be available for free if you buy another of my patterns! To claim it, just buy another pattern and forward a copy of [...]
Scattershot
The last few days have seen lots of knitting and lots of testing but little actual tangible progress. The Slalom mitts are finished, the pattern is tested, and I will take pictures and release the pattern as soon as the sun comes out. The Xanthophyll socks are in a similar state, though their release requires (the much more daunting task of) getting The Boy home and in them during daylight hours. Both should likely go live sometime later this week. I will be doing another yarn giveaway with the release of Xanthophyll, this time in conjunction with Shalimar Yarns who [...]
