Done…times two
Oh hey look, done! This one does some interestingly spiky/pleaty things on the top (because of how quickly the decreases happen and how their spaced). But it was declining to be photographed, so we'll have to talk about it another day. This does leave me with shockingly empty needles though. What should I knit next?
Left right left
This has, as expected, continued to be unreasonably amusing. It shouldn't be. It's just lines swooping off this way. Then swooping off that way. And, spoiler alert, they'll soon swoop off the other way again. But really, I couldn't be happier. It's pretty much perfect autopilot knitting (and the yarn continues to be a delight), and some days, that's really what you want. Now all we need is for it to get a bit chilly so I can take proper advantage of them!
Underway
Second hat, underway! In the end, I decided I wanted to do something a little different from either of the swatches. I think it's going to work out very nicely indeed. I'll get back to you in a few more rows when it starts to joggle back the other way. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm doing something scandalous and taking the weekend off. But come Tuesday morning, I'll be bringing out that lovely gray and purple hat and mitts set I'm so taken with. I promise lots of proper photos of them then (and none of my feet), but [...]
Double
My deep and unabating fondness for sets continues. And I happen to have another skein of that speckly bit of pretty from Spun Right Round (someone will ask, the color is bug jar). So it seems like there should be another hat to go with the first one, don't you think? The only real question is top or bottom? They're both rather nifty, and I can make a convincing argument for either. Any strong feelings on this end?
How tall
Folks often ask me how tall they should make their hats. And it always sort of strikes me as a funny question, sort of like saying 'how long should I make the leg of my sock' or 'how deep should I make this cowl.' I can tell you how long mine is, I can offer a suggestion or two, but the real answer is 'however tall/long/deep you like it!' Now, that doesn't mean there aren't some guidelines. The first one I ever came across was in Knitting Rules by none other than the Yarn Harlot herself. She says “the distance [...]
Now with more speckles
The speckly hat has continued to grow. I'll admit it can be hard to tell, because one row looks rather a lot like the last, but I assure you it is indeed taller. The real question now is do I keep the lines going as they have been for the whole hat, or do I send them careening back the other way for the second half. I'm leaning slightly toward option one, but I think either would be adorable. And of course I do have a second skein of yarn, so I may well let this one carry on as [...]
Meanwhile
So, it's been sort of all book all the time around here, but I have managed to grab the occasional spare moment and actually knit (not many mind you...but every now and then). There's a hat underway. It started out something like that. Then it was more like that. And these days it's more like this. It's the simplest little thing ever (two row repeat, mostly stockinette, easy to pick up and bang out a row when you have a minute), which makes it the perfect thing for the craziness of launch week. All the interest comes from the yarn [...]
Hat of Infinite Happiness
Right, so you know how pretty much all knitting is lovely and fun and a good thing? But then there's some knitting that is just Your Personal Perfect Knitting? Yeah, so this is mine. The top is just the way I like the tops of my hats to be (flat, which leads to a tiny bit of pouf but not unseemly amounts of slouch). It fits my (giant melon of a) head just right, with just the right amount of brim but not too much (a tricky dance, and one no store bought hat ever manages). And the colors. Oh [...]
A hat in slow motion
If you wandered over from pinterest and are looking for the pattern, it's called Pelagic and it's out on ravelry! First things first, you've got to put your time in on the band. There's no way around it. But then you get to play. I'm pretty sure this is exactly the right thing to do with that yarn you bought in an effort to be more colorful, but then you realized you are secretly a little scared of too much color, and so you tucked it away in the back corner of your stash where it couldn't give your other [...]
