Innie or Outie?
Smitten with them both, though I think the one on the left will be the crowd favorite. The second mitt is on the needles and should be finished today or tomorrow. Once I'm done with it, it's back to the cowl (and its long loong looong rows). All the math indicates the cowl should end up about 6 inches deep, which should be just about perfect. There's every chance these will be getting a testing call some time this week or next, so keep an eye on the testing thread in the group if they've caught your fancy.
Helper Cat, Part III
Douglas apparently didn't want to be left out of the helper cat parade. To this end, he decided to assist me with my mitt blocking. You will never meet a more water-loving cat. He sits on the edge of the tub when we shower, he plays with the faucet when we wash our hands or brush our teeth, and he's in the sink up to his elbows for a splash party every time we fill the sink. Put something (say...knitwear) in there at the same time and it's more or less a Douglas theme park. Which is why my faucet [...]
Don’t Cross the Streams
The plan is totally working. Just as important, all the math indicates that I'll be able to make the cowl significantly wider (by keeping the mitts tiny...tiny but awfully cute). So as long as I can keep from tangling the various bits and pieces of the project, everything should come together well. And apparently this morning the yarn is purple. I've simply embraced the changing nature of this fabric and I'm no longer fighting it. I swear I'm setting my white balance and I'm in decent light. I think it's just the yarn's magic resisting the camera's technology. I'm letting [...]
Warm Up
You remember the (ever so slightly crazy making) reign of painterly doom. They did lovely work, but while they were here, I just could not pay attention to one thing for more than an hour or so at a time. It just wasn't happening. So in celebration of a short attention span, I made this set of mitts. At least that's the excuse I'm using for the otherwise pitiful amount of stuff I got done while they were here. The mitts are an excellent consolation though! Each one takes only minimal mental effort (hey, we all have those days, I [...]
And Then They Fell Down Raining Fiery Death on All
Some things in this world are simply true. It doesn't matter if I remember them or not. It doesn't matter if I like them or not. They just go right on being true in blatant disregard of how I think the world should work. For instance, I am a big person, and I have giant freaky man hands. Also, it is rather challenging to take pictures of hands. Given these two truths, it really shouldn't surprise me that taking a picture of giant freaky man hands that 1) makes them look willowy and delicate 2) shows off the knitting they [...]
The Stars Aligned
Several things have happened at once. I'm home during daylight (not that rare). The Boy is home during daylight (much more rare). The weather is pleasant (quite unusual). I have finished knitwear to photograph (nearly unheard of). The combination means that there is a very good chance that all three of the little fluffy mitts shown a week or so ago will be ready to show off in their final project photos in the next day or two. Which is excellent, because that means I'll be able to start wearing them. Holding off on wearing perfectly good knitwear is rather [...]
Testing?
In a testing sort of mood? Go volunteer over on ravelry. All three of the mitts inspired by the house painting blues are ready for someone else to beat them up. Each of the three patterns is super quick (maybe 4 hours per mitt) and takes less than 100 yards of fingering weight yarn per pair. They're perfect for your leftover sock yarn bits. And, on the off chance you're a Christmas knitter and have started to panic, these will totally knock some names off your list. At the moment I'm most entertained by the yellow ones, but I'm fickle [...]
Short Attention Span
The painters are still banging. Now please don't get me wrong, they're doing a good job, and they're doing a job I don't want to do. I'm very glad that they're here and scampering over the roof. But oh my poor pulverized brains is it loud. It has rather dramatically cropped my already short attention span. But in a totally uncharacteristic move, I've taken the crazy and done something with it (other than whine). I took the three scraps seen here the other day and have turned them into three different quick little mitts. And they are all different. Different [...]
Moving Target
The goal had been to take a picture of the little yellow bit of knitting. See? Yeah. I know. I hardly see it either. I'm too busy being gobsmacked by Barry and his magical kitten magnatism. Once you're done making eyes with Barry, if you can bear to look away, you'll see a wee bit of yellow in the bottom. The knitting bit of that is all done, and I'm about to do the making up part of it. Should be cool. But not nearly as cool as Barry. Because right now, nothing is as cool as Barry.
