Diluvian

Diluvian are ready to go.  Alas, it's suddenly turned far too hot for wool socks.  I feel somehow cheated.  I'm still rather taken with them though, even if I won't be wearing them for a few more months. I never did quite decide if I like them right side out (above) or wrong side out (below).  Did you?

Brigid

So back in February (snowy, gray, dreary February, was it really only three months ago) I indulged my natural tendency to be a shameless tease.  I showed off a few pics of a sock I designed for Gaia’s Colours Sacred Sabbats Yarn Club.  It was exclusive to the club until yesterday, but now it's available to everyone. These are...well...these are totally inappropriate for Spring.  They're all about Winter and fire and warmth and comfort and toughing out the last bit of cold weather.  But, no matter how unlikely it seems at the moment, Winter will eventually come again.  These sunny [...]

Scatterling

As promised, the newest pattern is up! Actually, calling them new might be a tiny bit of a fib.  Remember the socks I made for my grandfather's birthday back in November?  These are a slightly remixed version of those (making them one of about three patterns I've been able to knit twice).  I've managed to (more or less) keep quiet about them over the last few months.  They did make one quick appearance when we went to Hershey, PA for New Year's Eve (they're chocolate colored after all), but they've otherwise stayed hidden away. I'm unreasonably pleased with them.  They're [...]

Greenhorn

The pattern for Greenhorn is up.  You've seen these as they grew, so I won't bore you with too many details.  The short version goes 'two sizes, mirrored left to right, nifty heel construction, worksheet to let you use the construction elsewhere.'  I like them, and you might too.  Go forth and knit before it gets too warm to wear wooly socks! Their fate on the color front is still undecided.  A few more washes has helped to equalize the color a bit.  I think I may hold off on the Kool-Aid extravaganza.  Of course now I'm terribly curious about [...]

Once More With Feeling

The socks I mentioned the other day are out.  I've called them Once More With Feeling to commemorate their magical transformer-style nature.  When the bottoms (inevitably) wear out you can snip one stitch, do ten minutes of finishing, and have a pair of fingerless mitts made from the stitches of the leg.  You know that the feet wear out long before the legs.  (Really, has anyone ever had the leg of their sock wear out?  I know I haven't ever seen it.)  I hate the idea of throwing out all that perfectly good knitting on the leg.  This is much [...]

So Much for Restraint

It was supposed to be a swatch.  It really was.  But you see, I hate swatching in the round.  I know how, I can do it, I just don't like to.  So I went ahead and swatched over a whole cuff's worth of stitches.  Then, well, then it was too nifty to rip out.  See?  The only problem is, that's the inside of the sock.  I'm not quite sure if i carry on as I am, or if I rip and redo it so that the pattern is reversed.  Would you run screaming from a pattern who's last instruction was [...]

Still not the Big News

So this is still not it.  There's a good chance the 'it' will be discussed tomorrow or Monday. Instead, I bring you some other news, this time accompanied by a photo.  It's been an unreasonably long time since there has been a photo of a new sock.  So, with no further ado, a picture.  This is a sock with a bit of back story.  The story is rather rambly.  The short version is 'new pattern later this month.'  If you don't want the long version, feel free to wander off now.  I'll never know. Ok, now for the long version.  [...]

Caprice

Caprice is up! I know these have been a while in coming.  I finished them way back in December (and have been happily wearing them in the months in between).  I thought that, since there was snow in the pictures, I'd better hurry up and release them before all the snow in my yard finally melted. These started as an experiment to see what would happen if I switched stitch motifs whenever I got the least bit tired of the last one.  I think it worked quite well, and definitely kept the knitting from getting boring.  You'd think I'd be [...]

Adumbrate

The pattern for adumbrate is up. These are free and are meant as a sort of thank you present to mark the one year anniversary of this website and of my adventures in designing. This has become a much bigger part of my life than I ever thought it would, and I've found it tremendously rewarding. I can't tell you what it means to me that you take time out of your day to knit my patterns, say hi, or even just drop by to read my rambles. Your encouragement means the world to me. Thank you.
