So That Was Fun!

Oh you guys are awesome!  Launching a new book is always ridiculously scary (it seriously hits every one of my 'what if I throw a party and no one comes?' buttons).  But you totally didn't let me down.  I'll be keeping the mailman very busy next week, thank you! But somehow, in the shiny new book dance, I didn't properly show off the awesome socks that everyone who preorders Fine Things is getting.  I should totally fix that!  Allow me to introduce Changeful. Except that picture doesn't quite do them justice (nifty as it is), because Changeful is really three [...]

Ianthine & Space Cadet Creations (giveaway)

I'm using the Curls preorder to introduce the patterns and yarns from the book. I'll be featuring a new pair each day. Most of the yarn companies have donated lovely prizes, so come back every day to see what's new!  Ianthine in Oriana 8-Ply from Space Cadet Creations  I am, generally, fairly immune to the charms of what you might call girly things.  I don't do pink and purple.  I'm not all that susceptible to lace.  I'm far more likely to wear jeans than a skirt.  But every now and then, when I'm not expecting it, something undeniably girly will [...]

Colophon

The freshly revamped and rereleased pattern for Colophon is now up on ravelry.  Pics first, then info, but do read on because I've got yarn to give away too! I know these are simple little bits of knitting, but I admit I'm rather taken with them.  They work in any sock or fingering weight yarn and need shockingly little yardage.  The sample shown here used 125 yards of Space Cadet Creations' Ester (shown here in a custom club colorway, but if you are looking for a purple, their Plume is smashing and will fill all your purple needs).  In addition [...]

I do, and you should too

To everyone who says 'mine doesn't look like yours,' I have a confession.  Mine doesn't look like mine either until it's blocked.  Shall I show you? See how one of those is all lovely and flow-y and smooth with clearly defined stitches, distinct ribbing, and pretty flared edges?  And see how one is a twisty, crumpled mess of disappointment with muddled lines and no flare to be seen? Yeah, the only difference is that the first one has been tossed in the sink for a bit of a soak, gently patted into shape, and left to dry.  Total time expended, [...]

Straight Lines

Zip zoom zowie.  I swear that took no time at all.  It took no time, and holy smokes is it cute, especially after a bit of a block.  See? The yarn is Space Cadet Creations' Ester, and it is a delight to work with.  It's a little skinnier than what I like for socks (my fondness for fat sock yarn is well documented), but it's lovely for projects like this.  I've got the second one on the needles now and should be done with it soon.  Then it's just a matter of sweet talking someone into modeling them for me [...]

Redux

I'm in an instant gratification mood.  Hence the wee tiny cuff (if I'd been a smart kid and not picked the wrong needles to start, I would have finished this yesterday, as it stands, I'll finish it today). That's Space Cadet Creations Ester in one of the Mini-Skein Club colors.  And if you've been here for a very long time and have an alarmingly good memory, you may recognize the pattern as a very old one of mine, Colophon.  That is not an accident. You see, one of my big (alarmingly big...possibly verging into the realm of daunting) projects this [...]

Space Cadet Giveaway

[Edit: The giveaway is over and the winner has been notified, thanks to everyone who entered!] How about we take a little break from the trip stuff and do something a bit more traditional for a day, hmm? Would you like to win some yarn?  Specifically, would you like to win a skein of the amazing Space Cadet Creations' Astrid DK in your choice of colors?  I rather thought you might! Astrid is what I used to make the Miscreant cuffs in Ne'er-Do-Well Knits.  It's delicious.  A nice round 4-ply, 100% merino -- sproingy and squishy and hugely versatile.  I [...]

More Obliging Still

Sometimes you go to the sketchy parts of town to find the right atmosphere, and sometimes you find it closer to home.  Perhaps just around the corner, in the garage of an abandoned house.  You know, the garage with the hole in the roof and the tree growing out the middle of it and the distinct cant to the left.  Not the best thing ever when it comes to, say, property values, but very handy indeed when you need to grab a quick knitting pic after dinner. That's Space Cadet Creations' Astrid yarn in a one of a kind color [...]

And After…

Quick and not-so-great snap (it is unpleasant outside, I don't want to be outside, so I didn't stay long) just to show you the much more relaxed shape these take on post blocking. Compare that to the tight bunchy shape before blocking.   Some time I'll get close up pics of the scallops so you can see how they're made, they really are shamelessly cute.
