Perfectly Normal
I think I'm running out of yarn. Not in general (perish the thought) but for this particular sock. In this situation, it would be perfectly normal to: knit 1 full round, rip it out, carefully measure the amount of yarn used, and do the math to determine how much yarn each stitch takes. Then calculate the remaining number of stitches in the sock, measure the amount of yarn remaining in the skein, and do more math to see if you have enough yarn. Entirely reasonable. A Shameful Lapse
It's the last day to get any of my sock patterns for $4.00. The sale ends tonight! So while we were on our impromptu pizza run, we just sort of happened to stumble into two yarn stores. Felled by the Flu
I have been felled by the flu. I have spent the last two days in bed taking strenuous naps and accomplishing precisely nothing useful. Today I felt human enough to stand up but still far from functional. I tried to read (I'm a grad student, reading is my day job) but retained absolutely no information from what I read. I tried to knit but, horror of horrors, knitting was too hard. Wow, you guys like yarn! The site has been up for about six months and I had almost as many comments on the yarn giveaway post as on all the others put together. Verdant
The first Bines sock is done. The second was started, suffered a small mishap, and is now in time out for a few days while I work on something else. I finished the first draft of the Bines pattern and have sent it out to a cadre of genius test knitters who are hard at work on it as I type. I hope to have the pattern out in about a month. Loot!
Alas, poorly photographed loot, but loot none the less. So yesterday I hauled my somnolent form out of bed at 4 in the morning and somehow managed to make my way to Columbus for Knitter's Connection. I took a class on reading Japanese patterns. The class was well done and has cemented my determination to hunt down some Japanese stitch dictionaries (any recommendations?). Alas there were no such books available at the market, but I did get a consolation prize of sorts - a satchel of loot. Goodies!
All of the unladylike fuming and vigorous swearing at wordpress were apparently worth it. This website has begun to result in the arrival of real live actual yarn in my mailbox. Yarn - for me! One arrival is a lovely skein of Nichole by Schaefer. It's a hypnotic mix of blues and purples, variegated enough to be interesting, solid enough to stand up to all sorts of interesting patterns. Collaboration
After three whole days of biting my tongue and keeping quiet, I now have official permission to shamelessly blab...I will be designing a pair of socks for Schaefer Yarn Company using their new yarn, Nichole! This is the yarn I used in my most recent socks (Nugatory), and I just loved working with it. I knit a bit loosely and hate working with small needles.
