Here’s the plan, plus some bonus uncomfortable honesty, just for fun!
Some time next week, I’ll send an updated version of the Penchant pattern to folks on the mailing list. That’s the pattern these hats are from. The pattern covers both hats but not the embroidery.
Then, a week or two later, I’ll send a special little supplement where I walk through how I used duplicate stitch to adorn them (and how you could do that to other knits) to folks on patreon.
Here’s the uncomfortable honesty bit. I’m doing this because I want folks to sign up for the mailing list! And I want folks on the mailing list to decide they like what I do and sign up for patreon.
Hell, I’m going to include a picture of the spiffy embroidered versions of the hats in the pattern (the one that I’m giving away for free, so lots of people see it) with a note saying ‘if you wanna do this to your hats, check out this cool thing over here’ and point them at patreon.
Because having more folks on the mailing list and patreon is good for my business!
But, every single time I do this, I get a handful of folks swooping in accusing me of Doing A Marketing (gasp). Oh The Scandal! You Are Only Giving Something Away For Free To Get More Customers!! Not Out Of Purest Altruism!!! HOW VERY DARE YOU?!?
To which I kinda wanna say yeah? I’m running a business? Part of that is marketing? And, ‘you can have this free thing if you want’ feels like a preeeeetty innocuous flavor of marketing all things considered?
Yet somehow, there’s always a group of folks scandalized by that. Some people just have a lot of free time. But I’ve found saying ‘yup, that’s true, that’s exactly what I’m doing, you’re totally right!’ is the best way to deal with them.
So, let’s try it!
If you want me to send you this pattern next week, make sure you’re on the mailing list. And if you want to learn more about embroidering on stuff like this, keep an eye on patreon later in the month.
Because having folks join me on those things is good for my business. And I bet you’ll like it if you do. You know, if you’re not too scandalized!
