Last call!
I have, as of this typing, exactly five of the Noteworthy kits left. When we did the kits for these, I kept a handful of them back (just in case I did something wrong in packing them or in case something exciting happened in the mail). Now that it's been a month since they all went in the mail, it feels safe to release the backups! Four of them have yarn, one is just the bits, and all the details are on the kit's page. They last as long as they last, and when they're gone they're gone. But if [...]
Crispy
I like my bacon crispy, so perhaps it's no surprise I prefer my knitted bacon with a bit of extra substance. But since keeping the yarn in the pan for a few more minutes doesn't seem to do much, getting crispy knitted bacon required a slightly different approach. Which is why I found myself wandering the aisles of the local hardware store, knitted bacon in hand, fondling wire with the other hand, much to the chagrin of the gentlemen working there. Because really, I firmly believe you should seize every opportunity to be the weirdo someone else tells their friends about [...]
Mending with…stickers?
Let's mend my jacket! I have had this down jacket since 2017. It's bright pink…I'm a fat person… Do you know how unusual it is to find winter stuff in cool colors as a fat person? I intend to keep this jacket in rotation as long as I possibly can. But it has a hole. So I'm going to fix it! Now normally I would fix a hole with needle and thread. But the kind of fabric used for jackets like this can be tricky to sew. But they make these cool little patch kits which are basically fancy stickers. [...]
Pretty Colors
These look less and less like coffee filters as we go! We talked about cutting them into fancy shapes, now let's make them pretty colors. You can dye your filters with either alcohol inks or alcohol ink based markers. Both work, both look great, both are fun. If you want to see how I do it (or want info about my supplies), head on over and I'll show you! The flower book is up for folks on Patreon (and will be out for every one else soon). I'm posting a bunch of videos showing you exactly how I make [...]
Petals
Ok so step one on the road from grocery store coffee filter to perfect paper flowers is 'make colorful circles of petals.' Part of that process is cutting them into shapes, and that's what we're talking about first. If you want to watch me make them and make some of your own, head over this way. The Posy book is out for patreon folks now (and it'll be available to other folks in a little while), and the videos talking you through how you do it are public for the next little while too (I'll likely lock them down once [...]
Middle aged
I have reached the stage of middle age where I will absolutely, without even a hint of shame, pull over to the side of the road to look at someone else's trash furniture. And I mean really...can you blame me? Because sometimes you find this! Which, admittedly, this is the 'after an hour with a magic eraser and a whole lot of wood oil' picture, but still, is that not radiant? I think it's gotta be about 150 years old, and it's shockingly sturdy and surprisingly comfortable, even for my rather ample fundament. Did I fill in the missing bronze [...]
Supplies!
The paper flower book is coming out next week (Utter and Rampant Nonsense folks will get as part of their membership, it will be on payhip for anyone else)! I wanted to give you a supply list so you can have everything ready for when it comes out. Explanations first, then links at the end if you want exactly what I used (though I emphasize that you absolutely do not need to have the same stuff as me, feel free to use what you have). Tools & Supplies The petals are made from dyed coffee filters. I use the cheapest [...]
Plans…
Plans are afoot...bacon-y plans. Because I suspect some of you want to make bacon, but maybe don't want to track down bacon-colored yarn and just the right wire to make perfectly crispy. And I suspect maybe some of you want those little scissors (oh I love them so much, they are super sharp) and that spiffy little pouch (I could talk for five minutes about the zipper and how it makes the whole thing just so much better). And I want to make that happen. Because the world is dark and scary, and little bits of tiny [...]
Over Easy
Ok, I'm declaring the egg a success. I mean it will be more of a success once it's blocked, but that's fine. But I'm confident it will read as 'egg' and that it does not look so much like a boob as to offend anyone's delicate sensibilities. Now...what are the chances I need to dig out the old donut pattern to go with it?
