Tiny Nonsense

Hypnotic

So Wednesday's trip to Webs was lovely and totally met my yarn acquisition needs for the week month near future.  I had absolutely no intention of seeking out more yarn on the trip.  But somehow, completely without my conscious intervention, this happened. I just sort of fell in and couldn't pull myself out without bringing a pair of them home with me.  I'm sure you understand.  The way the color is put on the yarn is fabulous...it's not this stretch is blue and this stretch is purple and this stretch is green.  Rather, each bit of yarn has all the [...]

In which the lighting is bad, but the yarn is good

Wednesday I got up early, dropped The Boy off at that pesky work thing, and ventured west.  A few hours later, I found myself in front of Webs.  Now, I've shopped on Webs' site and listened to their podcast for years.  One of my first thoughts upon realizing we were headed to Boston was hmmm, that's not far from Webs.  I was rather looking forward to going, and I was not disappointed. Now, that's not to say it was quite like I expected.  I think I assumed it was something like the world's biggest, coziest yarn store with a [...]

What Price Notes

Remember the slipper?  The slipper from back in October? I found I wanted it to have a mate.  So I grabbed the yarn, felt terribly clever that I'd packed the needles up with the yarn, and started knitting. Now, I wasn't quite clever enough to have held on to my notes for these.  But I figured I'd made it once before, I had the first one, I can count, so how hard could it be.  I cast on, did a bit of counting and fiddling, and soon had the first half of a slipper. But all was not well.  Not [...]

In Which an Opportunity Arose

Occasionally, in the course of The Boy's job, the need will arise for him to make a last-minute jaunt.  Sometimes, this means I get to haul myself out of bed very early and drop him at the airport.  Sometimes, it means I look at my schedule, do a bit of calculation, and declare my intent to join him.  One of those calculations found us here on Sunday morning. And yes, that is snow on the hillside.  It was rather brisk.  I was glad of my fetching woolly hat. We saw a host of mysterious sea denizens.  I have no idea [...]

Stopgap

So I had this necklace (and earrings to go with it too).  I liked it rather a lot, but I never ever wore it.  Why you ask?  Because of the clasp. This clasp drove me insane.  It's meant to make the necklace adjustable and be lovely and decorative.  But there are two flaws with that.  Even at the longest setting, it's still about an inch shorter than I'd like (I cannot stand short necklaces, they make me feel like I'm strangling).  Also, that lovely chunk of decorative rock dangling back there gets all snarled up in my hair. Now, the [...]

Goddess Collection, Review and Giveaway

[note]The giveaway is closed. Winners have been notified. Thanks to all who entered.[/note] I never quite manage anything as formal as resolutions, but I do believe in lists of things to do or things to learn.  One of the things that's been petitioning for a spot on my lists is 'knit a sweater.'  I confess, I have some doubts as to my endurance.  But the marvelous Jill Wolcott has come up with something that just might push me over the edge. Jill designs exactly the sort of sweaters I'd like to wear.  Feminine without being fussy and full of beautiful [...]

Small Things

I'm not sure what happened.  But somehow, I find myself not just in possession of a whole whack of stitch markers, but excited by them.  It could be because they're so damn perfect.  They work as regular and locking markers, they fit up to about a size 10 needle, they weigh nothing, and they don't snag the yarn.  And, most important of all, they're about as streamlined and minimalist as you can imagine.  They look something like this. Except my pile of them is huge.  Alarmingly huge.  I didn't show you the whole pile because a heap of black safety-pins [...]

Laze

A certain amount of lazing about is good for a person.  It is my firm conviction that, if I work hard all day every day, I stop doing good work.  If I don't take the odd day off (or two...or three...in a row) and accomplish absolutely nothing, my brain goes on strike.  So, working with that theory, I've taken a bit of shameless time off over my birthday and the holiday.  I hope you got to do the same. And by the way, it totally totally worked.  The last few days have been ones of scandalous, shocking productivity.  Alas, it's [...]
