Almost There
The yellow socks are almost done. Very very close to done. I just need to remember all the clever stuff I did on the toe of the first one and manage to write it down and do it again, and they'll be all set. Which is good, because the fingering weight ones that Katie has been graciously working on for me are not only finished and in the mail, but have arrived here in sunny (cough) Cleveland. As soon as they're all done and blocked, I'll get a picture of both styles on some fake feet and show you what [...]
Still Entranced
So the cowl now has a friend! Or rather, the partial cowl has a friend. You see, I want the cowl to be as long as possible, but I also want a hat and mitts, so I'm holding off on finishing the cowl until I've finished the others, just so I can use all the yarn. I'm really rather taken with it. I used the same stitch as in the cowl and made a band to go around my head then tapered it down to a point. Then I picked up stitches on one side (evenly adding in as many [...]
Sun Valley Fibers Giveaway
I don't want to make anyone else jealous, but I think I might possibly have the coolest job ever. Visiting fiber festivals is market research, I get to indulge my bossy tendencies write patterns, and I spend most of my days at home in my pajamas in the company of the Kitten Overlords. And if that weren't enough, every now and then a yarn company gets in touch and asks if I might possibly like to see some of their yarn (yes) and maybe even share some of it with you guys (also yes). It's pretty darn cool. Today I'd [...]
Entranced
I swear it was supposed to be a swatch. A quick, simple little swatch to see if I liked the way that stitch and that yarn played together. Turns out, I do. So now the swatch is just about to reach cowl length (though admitedly, I like the sort of cowls that are just short scarves held on with a button...feels more efficient than making a giant scarf and just leaving it dangling in the breeze). And I have plans for a hat to match. And I may possibly have ordered one more skein from the UK (all I can [...]
Strappy
So the straps were absolutely positively the way to go. The straps, in fact, quite make the slipper. Allow me to demonstrate. Awfully cute, no? How about one more, this time from the front. (Erm, and if this looks suspiciously like two left feet, that's because it is. My display feet are all lefties.) I'm wondering how I could have ever doubted the inherent wisdom of straps. They make the slippers stay on perfectly, and they increase the cuteness factor (already alarmingly high) significantly. Swinging the strap all the way down to the heel was the simplest tweak imaginable, but [...]
Decisive
The very day I showed you The Tattoo Coloring Book and confessed my plans to make use of its lovely images for a fit of napkin making, I happened to find myself in a store that sells embroidery stuff. Funny how that happens. Let me pause for a moment and emphasize just how many colors this stuff comes in. Enough colors that my simple plan (grab a dozen or so colors that work well together, it will only take a moment) suddenly seemed daunting. I started to feel that little prickle I get when confronted with too many choices. The [...]
Signs
If this recent trip had a theme, it would have to be embracing the unexpected. The trip itself came up on short notice, and it took a wee bit of finagling to make it practical for me to come along. But we sorted it out. As a result, we went to the water, obtained lovely yarn, launched a new embroidery obsession, visited dear friends, discovered new drinks, and had two of the best meals ever (seriously, Gracie's and T. W. Food, go if you have the chance). That's an awful lot of delightful things to manage on a short-notice trip. [...]
Making up for lost time
Despite the previous rocky start, slipper the second is now well underway. In fact, by the time you read this, it may well be done (not to draw back the curtain on the glamorous world of knit blogging too much, but I've been known to take advantage of the afternoon sunlight to take a picture, write a blog post to go with the picture in the evening, and schedule it to go up the next morning). I continue to be enamored of them. They are just so amazingly tidy and orderly. Everything flows very nicely, if I do say so [...]
Unexpected Development
I'm accustomed to falling prey to random fits of yarn lust. That's pretty normal at this point. But my final purchase of the trip was something rather more unexpected. I bought a coloring book. More specifically, I bought The Tattoo Coloring Book, and it is astonishingly awesome. I highly recommend clicking on the picture to go see it in its full glory. I'll wait. Now, this sort of behavior isn't without precedent. I have a handy little collection of coloring books (and have since college) plus a giant bucket of colored pencils, and I turn to them in times of [...]
