Disco snails?
I asked instagram what they thought this was, and a somewhat baffling number of folks decided the clear answer was...snails. Which, I regret to inform you, is not the answer. This time. Though now I have found myself spending a fairly shocking amount of time pondering how one would construct a snail, were one so inclined. Which I wouldn't have said was likely until about 25 hours ago. But now here we are. But in the meantime, I can say with certainty that this isn't a snail.
Oh, the Glamour
Ok so this is one of the least photogenic things ever to grace my personal corner of the internet, but dammit all, I'm proud of myself! I felt fretful yesterday (gee, wonder why, it's not like the nominal leader of the free world has clearly lost every single one of his marbles and needs to be put in time out for threatening massive war crimes or anything), and the best response to that feeling for me is often to Do Something Physically Challenging. So I decided to organize all the mail club/kit stuff that's been slowly taking over my office/dining [...]
Doodybops
Alrighty, so you want to see how to do the little doodlybops. Now, my brain says 'the most reasonable and efficient way to do that is to read the nicely streamlined, highly photographed, and actually edited instructions on exactly how to do them that are in the pattern that came out last week...go read those.' Because my personal brain wants to flay alive anyone who is trying to explain something to me in a video. It's too slow, and someone is talking. What a travesty, no one can learn under these conditions. However, I have been led to believe that [...]
One little stitch
Knitting lends itself to horizontal stripes. All you have to do is grab a new color of yarn, and you're all set. But horizontal lines can feel...slightly trickier. They're not though, I promise! And once you have the hang of them, you can use them for all sorts of things. I'm making this (entirely to take a picture of it to use it for an upcoming scheme...more about this later), and it seemed like a perfect chance to show you just how easy it is to add a vertical line in to your knitting. You can watch me do it [...]
Unfurl
Unfurl is out on both Ravelry and payhip! Rampant Nonsense and Notable Nonsense folks have a code to download it free over here. You'll need to be logged in to see it. If you're not on one of those tiers and want to be, click the 'Join to unlock' button at the bottom of the post and you can change that. Everyone else can use the code TOPPLE for 25% off for the first few days the pattern is out. That will work through Friday April 3 on both Ravelry and payhip. It's starting to feel like spring around here. [...]
Monthly Reminder
I had a mistaken idea of what Doing Something would feel like. That's fine. I know how it happened. I grew up on Indiana Jones and The Sound of Music, so I understood that you were supposed to punch nazis. And I grew up on The Dark is Rising, and The Lord of the Rings, and A Wrinkle in Time, so I knew that our trusty band of good-natured, soft-hearted, and oh so reluctant heroes would band together and save the world from the horror that always comes when a handful of powerful men forget that other people are real. [...]
Cool, new problems
I firmly believe that one of the signs you are dong cool, new things is that you start running into cool, new problems. That happened with the cards (don't worry, it's already fixed), so I wanted to give you a quick update. TL;DR version right up top: We're swapping the Notable Nonsense schedule so that the printed version of these goes out first (in April) and the punched version goes out second (in May). I'd initially planned to do them the other way around (and mentioned that in at lest a couple of places), but the staggering cleverness and astonishing [...]
Bright bright bright
I do, generally, try not to soothe my feelings with capitalism. But I needed more of that neon embroidery thread (because oh the notepapers made with it are my favorite). And it seemed silly not to order enough to make shipping from overseas worth it, right? And oh, oh but pretty colors can be a balm to the soul. Yarn is from Vera Yarn Design. Now...what shall I make with it?!
Paper Prep
Now that you've gathered all of your supplies, you can set to work prepping the paper for stitching! That basically means cutting it to the right proportions (if you're so inclined, you are of course allowed to skip this or any other step if it sounds too fiddly to you because you are an adult with free will and I am not the boss of your projects), rounding the corners, figuring out where you're going to put the holes, then actually punching the holes. I talk you through lots of the details of that in a video over here if [...]
