I am pro abortion
This is your occasional reminder that I am pro abortion. Not just pro choice (though yes, of course, that too). Pro abortion. Because the alternatives are ghastly. And if that's a problem for you, I cordially invite you to see yourself out. (I know most of you are well aware and in full agreement.) Meanwhile, may I suggest that if you can, you donate to your local abortion fund or to one in an area you care about? I've linked to an organization that lets you find resources in your area that could very much use your help. Sending money [...]
Very picky
Yeah. Yeah fine. I do indeed want something slightly different. Which means that by the time you see this picture, this yarn will have been yoinked out and even possibly knit back up into the next iteration. Because what I really want is a little turned hem down there on the bottom, not ribbing. Because it will be so lovely, and I want to try it and what the hell is the point of knitting your own things if you don't make them exactly the way you want them!
Something different
I...I think I want something slightly different. Not a different yarn, the yarn is just what I want. But a slightly different brim. So now I believe it's traditional to knit another inch or so to make sure I really do want to change it, and only then to rip it out and start over. Which I admit, does seem a bit inefficient. But it's a time honored practice, and who am I to question it. You need to be really really sure before you rip...and the only way to be really sure is to have more information to go [...]
Smashing
Yup, as predicted. Smashing. The yarn is all smooth and round and just generally delightful. Sit tight, cast on is imminent!
Well then
Well. Well then. You may expect that you will be seeing more of this. Quite a bit more. This yarn does exactly what I want yarn to do right now. And when that happens, well, you just have to embrace it. Yarn is Madeline Tosh's Triple Twist in Red Fox (that's the gray one) and Citrus (that's the orange one). And I need to check one thing real quick before I cast on...but I'm pretty sure it will be smashing...
Extra bits
This is the sort of thing I was talking about yesterday (wander over to yesterday's post to see what I mean). This is a super fun way to handle the ends on this hat (well, this is my first pass at it where I'm just checking if the idea is viable, the one I actually do for real will be all tidy and neat at the top and end in a tassel at the bottom and just generally be a monument to orderliness, but you knew that already). It's pretty and fun and I love it and it makes me [...]
Feasible
Let's talk about this. Yes, there will be a pattern! But... I've been spending a lot of time lately thinking about what is and isn't feasible to put into a single pattern. Because wow oh wow is this one of those projects where my inclination is to add in an absurd number of variations and options and experiments. I could very easily turn this into six months of work and fifty pages of content. And I would have SO MUCH FUN DOING IT! That's actually my brain's happy place. I love nothing more than taking the time and space [...]
Quite sure
See, I told you I had a different blue lined up ready to try out! And I'm pretty sure this is exactly what I wanted all along. I just had to, you know, lay hands on it in person rather than seeing it through a screen before I could be sure. But now I'm sure. Quite sure! Just wait till you see it all together...
Quadrants
The way this finishes out at the top is deeply, deeply satisfying. I cannot pretend otherwise. There's going to be an additional panel there on the opposite quadrant (you can just barely see the start of one of the columns of stitches there in the distance). And then I have to decide if I want to fill in the sides as well or leave them blank. Which I for sure won't know until I do the second one and pet it for a bit and see what tickles my fancy. But I am faaaaaaaairly well smitten with the idea of [...]
