Tiny Nonsense

Swatches

Have I mentioned lately that you should swatch? I mean I feel like I probably have. But just in case you're new, swatch. Because it's much better to find out that the lovely yarn and the lovely stitch pattern do not play nicely together after 3 inches of a swatch rather than after 3 inches of a hat. And again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the yarn...it's just that this yarn and this stitch do not currently want to get all tangled up in each other. But never fear, there's more in the stash where this [...]

That will do nicely

Alrighty, I told you mitts were quick. And brioche is quick. So brioche mitts are doubly quick. Which really, given that I have the attention span of a concussed squirrel at the moment, is not a bad thing at all.

Presage

Sometimes I want to do something fancy and fiddly and maybe even hard. But this is not that time. Right now, I want things to be very very mellow (but, you know, still lovely, because lovely helps).  And somehow, Presage strikes that perfect balance between astonishingly mellow and absolutely delightful. There are precisely six fiddly rows in the body of the hat.  No really, six rows (even better, it's the same one fiddly row worked six times, so once you've done it once, you have the hang of it and you'll be golden going forward).  The rest is just plain [...]

Yes please

Brioche increases are satisfying. Thumb gussets are satisfying. Brioche thumb gussets are a thing of wonder and delight and just the motivation a person needs to cast on the second half of the pair. P.S. The hat comes out tomorrow, make sure you're on the mailing list if you want me to send you a coupon when it goes live!

If it bleeds…

The piece on top is the mitt, not yet blocked. The piece on the bottom is the hat, already blocked. See how they're different colors even though they're knit from the exact same skeins of yarn? That's because a little of the dye came off the turquoise yarn and landed on the white yarn when I soaked the hat. So, let's talk about that. First, in this case, it's not a problem. I love how the hat looks, that's how the mitt will look after it gets soaked and blocked, so it's totally, totally fine.  But, I can think of [...]

Reversible?

What do you think, is it reversible? This is the inside.  Previous post shows the outside.  I suspect it's suspiciously close to reversible (most brioche is)!

And some mitts to match

Look, I just can't help it.  If there's yarn leftover, I want to have matching mitts. Which really, this is not a great hardship.  You could even say it's rather nifty. Because winter will come again (I say, as I look out on the bright summer skies and parched summer grass) and when it does, I will want to have as many ways to stave off the darkness as possible. And really cute knits can sometimes help with that.

Worth it

There we go, all fixed, and totally worth the time to go ahead and do it right. Usual spiel applies.  It will be a pattern (testers are already done with it, all I need to do is make myself go outside in the heat to take photos), almost certainly out later this month.  Do the mailing list thing below if you want to hear when it drops.  And there's oodles of yarn left, so there will be mitts to match!   [pextestim pex_attr_set="looking-for-this-pattern" pex_attr_autoplay="false"][/pextestim]

Summer School, Review Session

So we spent this month talking a whole bunch about socks (which fine, I realize is odd, but hopefully at best helpful and at worst harmless). And we put a whole bunch of them on sale over the course of the month. But, on the off chance you missed class one day (or the socks you most wanted to make weren't on the syllabus), I think we should end summer school with a review session. Use the code SUMMER on ravelry to take 15% off any of my available sock or slipper patterns from now through the end of the [...]
