Summer School, Party Tricks, Diluvian
On Monday we talked a bit about socks with ridiculous party tricks, and for the rest of the week I’ll be showing off some of my personal favorites. These are Diluvian, they are reversible, and they’re 25% off on ravelry with the code SUMMER SCHOOL through the end of the day, eastern time, Thursday July 30. Now, I know all socks are technically reversible in the sense of there not being much in the way of dire consequences if you put them on inside out. But these look equally lovely either way, so you won't run the risk of looking [...]
Summer School, Party Tricks, Indomitable
On Monday we talked a bit about socks with ridiculous party tricks, and for the rest of the week I'll be showing off some of my personal favorites. These are Indomitable, they are proof that cuffed socks are just delightful, and they're 25% off on ravelry with the code SUMMER SCHOOL through the end of the day, eastern time, Wednesday July 29. So cuffing your socks shouldn't be amusing. It really shouldn't. And yet somehow it is. Especially these, where the sock is reversible so you can wear them inside out and cuffed or right side out and uncuffed and [...]
Summer School, Party Tricks, Cleave
On Monday we talked a bit about socks with ridiculous party tricks, and for the rest of the week I'll be showing off some of my personal favorites. These are Cleave, they are about as close as I come to messing with the fundamental structure of socks, and they're 25% off on ravelry with the code SUMMER SCHOOL through the end of the day, eastern time, Tuesday July 28. Look, I told you I'm a sock traditionalist. I don't normally stray far from that path. But this has just a tiny little tweak (instead of working a heel flap and [...]
Summer School, party tricks
Now look, I am a fan of fairly sedate socks. Well no, that's not quite right. I'm all about flashy stitch patterns and lovely lines and the occasional bit of arch shaping or gusset shenanigans. But in my heart of heart, my favorite socks are top down (because that means you can try them on after an inch and know for sure if they'll fit over your heel), with a heel flap (we talked about my love of adjustable heel flaps the other week), and a fairly mellow foot. But, there's something about socks that brings out the mad scientist [...]
That quiet grumbling you hear is me
Ahem...so far so good. Clipping happily along. Until... Damn. That tiny white line is a slip I didn't grab quite right a few rows back. And since this is reversible, I can't really just leave it (even though it doesn't show on the other side). And while you can drop stitches back in brioche and fix them, it always feels just a teeny tiny bit daunting. The sort of thing you want to do with good light and while fully awake. It'll be fine after blocking. And it's worth it to actually fix it. But I will grumble while I [...]
A hat in double time
So the only bad thing about the summer school posts is that I can't show off the stuff I'm working on (because I mean yes, I am working on things). If you want the blow by blow, you could always come visit on instagram. Somehow posting a couple of times a day there doesn't seem nearly as obnoxious as posting a couple of times a day on the blog. But just in case that's not your jam, I can also bombard you with things over here, just at an alarmingly quick pace. It would be much more reasonable if we [...]
Summer School, Slippers, Abeyance
On Monday we talked a bit about slippers, and for the rest of the week I’ll be showing off some of my personal favorites. These are Abeyance, they are proof that I can be amused by the smallest of things, and they’re 25% off on ravelry with the code SUMMER SCHOOL through the end of the day, eastern time, Friday July 24. It's all about the loop. No really, these exist entirely because, as I was tugging on my boots, I decided the loop on the back of them was great and I wanted to do a knit version of [...]
Summer School, Slippers, Burgeoning
On Monday we talked a bit about slippers, and for the rest of the week I’ll be showing off some of my personal favorites. These are Burgeoning, they use the same sneaky trick as yesterday, and they’re 25% off on ravelry with the code SUMMER SCHOOL through the end of the day, eastern time, Thursday July 23. No really, this is a fun way to build a slipper (there's a part of me that thinks it would be a fun way to build a sock, but I have so far manged to keep that part of me stuffed in the [...]
Summer School, Slippers, Excursion
On Monday we talked a bit about slippers, and for the rest of the week I’ll be showing off some of my personal favorites. These are Excursion, they use one slightly sneaky trick to great effect, and they’re 25% off on ravelry with the code SUMMER SCHOOL through the end of the day, eastern time, Wednesday July 22. So remember how yesterday's slippers had a heel flap? These don't. Instead these start with Judy's magic cast on at the very back of the heel. Then the whole slipper grows from there, all smooth and organic and in one piece. It's [...]
