Yarn…sometimes I just need to buy yarn
So I did, alas, not go to Rhinebeck this year (I've gone before...but I get rather quickly overwhelmed by All The People and sort of want to just...leave...leave at once). But that does not mean I didn't spend the weekend playing with yarn. I ordered myself something new (translation, I've not used it before) and indulgent (translation, it's from far enough away that the shipping feels expensive (even though it is actually totally reasonable) and the yarn takes an age to get here because the post office hates me and wants me to suffer). That's Bouncy Sport in Candy Sparrow [...]
Done! Er…for now…
And with that, I'm calling this patch of stitching done. The first bit of stitching was in a previous post, the middle bit is below. If you want to watch the progression of stitches on these, you can check out the embroidery tag on here and scroll backwards. Now, it's all but certain I will get/find another hole in this some time soon. And I've given in and bought spare of all the colors I used stitching this so I can keep repairing it as I run out of thread (it's just DMC embroidery floss, which you can find for [...]
Unstoppable
Yeah, so apparently I should just give in and knit tiny things over and over and over again for the rest of time. It's looking like there are going to be a dozen variations on these (all made by slipping stitches, not with proper colorwork, because proper colorwork is scary and not something I want to mess with on a project the size of a lightbulb). Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go make tassels for all of them, and then go wandering around the yard, looking for something that feels suitably Christmas tree like to take photos [...]
Hoard
These are not proper knitting. They're not serious. They're not somber. They're not even a little bit practical. They're pretty much ridiculous. And they're just what I need right now. They're called Hoard, and you can grab them now on ravelry (and take 10% off with the code ACORNS). So these were supposed to just be for me. They all started because there's this gorgeous mossy root in my backyard (yes, yes it is sort of a fairy land out there), and every time I walk past it I think 'I to use that for photos someday...' Well someday finally [...]
Stitched
Yes, yes the cardigan is back. Remember it, the one I've been stitching on for, um, two years now on and off (scroll down)? Yeah, it's back. The fact that this gets so many holes is proof either that I'm too rough on my clothes, that it was too delicate to begin with, or that I wear it all the time and therefore just beat up on it a lot. Possibly all three. But at this point, I'm not sad to see the holes, so I don't really see a problem.
Gather round
I really sort of want to just hide them all around the neighborhood and see if anyone notices... And before you ask, yes, there will be a pattern (and quite soon too, but I want to knit a few more first). But I want to talk about something for a minute. This is a little scary, but here goes. I strongly considered not putting this pattern out, because the last few times I've put out a pattern for something cute and tiny, I've gotten a few really distressing messages. There are a handful of folks who took time out of their day [...]
Blame the moss
So there's a tree in our back yard. Well, there are several, but there's one in particular that has a root that runs right at ground level for a while. And between the two edges of the root is a little channel of the softest, fuzziest, most intensely green bit of moss you've ever seen. And every time I walk past it I think "that's so disgustingly cute I should take a picture of something there sometime." And yesterday, as I was coming back inside from chatting on instagram, I had this thought for about the two hundredth time. But [...]
Tassels
Right...so the hats are adorable on their own. They are and I won't let you talk me out of believing that. But they are made even cuter by the shameless addition of tassels. Now, much as with pompoms, making tassels is easier with the right tools. I use this little gizmo (as always, amazon links are affiliate links). And while I probably wouldn't have bought it if I was just going to make one or two, I found myself very glad to have it when I wanted to make piles and piles and piles of matching tassels for the hats. [...]
Unabashedly Floofy
Look, these just are not a serious project. If that's what you're looking for, go make a sweater. Or a giant lace shawl. Or maybe even some socks. These are a few dozen yards of pure unbridled frivolity. And I should probably apologize for that...or like pretend it's got more significance than it does. But really it's just cheerful and easy and non-threatening, and that's sort of what I'm looking for in the world right now. That, and an excuse to make tassels. I'll do a post about those here shortly (because really, the make the hats about a zillion [...]
