Now that you’ve done the important bit…
So, I'm very much hoping that everyone reading this who can vote already *has* voted...right? Right! Well now that you have that all taken care of, how about voting on some delightfully trivial stuff instead. I'm considering grabbing two favorite patterns each from Knitter's Curiosity Cabinet I, II, and III, Fine Things, and Silk Road Socks and bringing them out individually for juuuuuuuust a week or two (as part of a larger little shindig that happens later this month). I generally don't do this (because really...they're meant to be part of a book and I think they're more fun that [...]
Kinked
So I mentioned before that this yarn, gorgeous though it is, is a little bit kinky straight from the cake. That's an artifact of the dyeing process. A lot of gradient yarns like this are machine knit into blanks, dyed, and then wound into cakes (the dyer who made this yarn posted a picture over here of some dyed blanks waiting to be wound). When you rip out knitting (either when you rip out your own or when you rip the dyed blank out to wind it into a cake), the yarn can stay kinked. I don't generally like to [...]
Let’s do that again…
So...if you've been here for a very very very long time, you just might remember that back in November and December of 2015, I knit a hat and some cuffs to go with it. They were out of what is very possibly my favorite purple yarn ever, they had absolutely gorgeous cables (look at the top of that hat...is that not glorious?), they fit perfectly, I loved everything about them. And for some reason they sat, unworn and unpublished, all alone in my Basket of Things To Turn Into Patterns for, quite literally, years. There's just no good reason for [...]
Inscribe
So I'm not sure why, but this seems to be the year I need to knit tiny things. First it was the hearts, then the stars, then the acorns, and now...now teeny tiny hats. The hats are called Inscribe, they're out now on ravelry, and you can get them for 10% off with the code TASSEL. Now look, I know these are not proper, serious, grownup knitting. I know they are not practical. But I also know they are cute as can be, they turn those tiny balls of leftover yarn we all have sitting around into something adorable, and they [...]
I like big books and I cannot lie…
There's something about a giant book that just feels deeply satisfying. It's solid and substantial and reassuringly permanent. And this? Well this totally qualifies! It's Interweave's new 100 Knits (as always, amazon links are affiliate links), and they were kind enough to send me a copy (I've got a sock pattern in there) plus an extra to send off to one of you. The book brings 100 of Interweave's most popular adult garment and accessory patterns together in one giant collection (seriously, it feels like a textbook...which makes my little book nerd heart happy). Inside you'll find ten hats, six [...]
Yon
First there was Hither, then there was Thither, and now there is Yon. The set is complete! You can find them on ravelry (and either get an awesome discount on the whole set, or use the code LEAFY for 10% off just the cowl if you really just want it all by itself). Now, if you've been paying way more attention to my knitting than you probably should, you might remember that this is actually the part of the set I knit first (way way way back in May of 2016). That's because the moment I laid hands on this [...]
Yarn…sometimes I just need to buy yarn
So I did, alas, not go to Rhinebeck this year (I've gone before...but I get rather quickly overwhelmed by All The People and sort of want to just...leave...leave at once). But that does not mean I didn't spend the weekend playing with yarn. I ordered myself something new (translation, I've not used it before) and indulgent (translation, it's from far enough away that the shipping feels expensive (even though it is actually totally reasonable) and the yarn takes an age to get here because the post office hates me and wants me to suffer). That's Bouncy Sport in Candy Sparrow [...]
Done! Er…for now…
And with that, I'm calling this patch of stitching done. The first bit of stitching was in a previous post, the middle bit is below. If you want to watch the progression of stitches on these, you can check out the embroidery tag on here and scroll backwards. Now, it's all but certain I will get/find another hole in this some time soon. And I've given in and bought spare of all the colors I used stitching this so I can keep repairing it as I run out of thread (it's just DMC embroidery floss, which you can find for [...]
Unstoppable
Yeah, so apparently I should just give in and knit tiny things over and over and over again for the rest of time. It's looking like there are going to be a dozen variations on these (all made by slipping stitches, not with proper colorwork, because proper colorwork is scary and not something I want to mess with on a project the size of a lightbulb). Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go make tassels for all of them, and then go wandering around the yard, looking for something that feels suitably Christmas tree like to take photos [...]
